If I need something, I compensate someone. But when I do a favor for someone, I either don't expect anything in return (its a favor because you're family) or we talk those terms up front. I just find it to be bad practice to say, yeah sure I'll do you a favor and then go trash your brother because you expect something in return. There's a pretty simple solution - communicate.

Based on the info provided here, it is possible the brother doesn't even realize the issue - he may think its enough that he's giving his brother a free house for a week in return for the small task of letting the dog out a couple times. Doesn't mean its right, but there's certainly room for a different perspective that may be easily resolved by talking about with him instead of bitching to complete strangers.
