13 cards is not bad officiating?

Also, this is a painfully hard game to officiate. Webb (who I was pleased was selected at first) made a mess of it, but that was one tough game to call. Tons of fouls and rough tackles.

Did Iniesta kick his way to the Golden ball?

That would have been an awful offside call. It hasnt been made all tournament.

Yeah more than likely. He took over 3 games, including this one. Xavi was the most consistent, and will probably get second. My vBucks were on Xavi too damnit!!!! I thought if Iniesta scored he would get it, just didnt think he would score!

At least I got Muller and the Golden Ball correct.

Sneider and Villa tied for the Golden Boot if i'm not mistaken. Is Golden Ball the mvp?

I only caught the extra time. Also, I dislike Ian Robben.

^Agreed. An offside called on a deflection would have been terrible. But 13 cards and one ejection (on the wrong team by the way) was completely unnecessary.

May I remind you that the card situation was 9 to 2 at one point?

Two semi-breakaways for the Dutch were stopped by fouls were given a yellow, and then not a damn thing except a yellow to the Dutch player for arguing the call. Fouls during breakaways are almost always given a red.

To play devil's advocate some, Spain only had 4 yellow cards all tournament heading into this game (only N. Korea had less, and they didn't make it out of the group stage).

All Robben had to do was go down and he gets a red card. The ref was like 30 yards behind....you expect him to blow the whistle and give a red when the player stays on his feet for a goal scoring chance???

absolutely not. the only provision that would apply in your scenario under the Laws would be if the foul occurred to deny an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
typically that is an egregious foul in the box.

does not apply here at all.

Yeah, Spain doesnt really foul very hard.

The Dutch were just nuts early on. Van Persie and Van Bommel made it known they were going to take out the Spanish to make it a rougher game. Then De Jong goes Karate Kid. There were to MANY yellows, but the Dutch certainly deserved to have twice as many as Spain.

if there was any restraint shown by Webb, it was in NOT giving Dejong a Red for his early foul. Now THAT would have changed the tenor of the game. And that would have kicked up the controversy to another level.

other than that, the yellows flowed freely, which only serves to make Robben's missteps as he entered the 18 seem more ligitimate. That was an appropriate no call IMO.

So it should have been 9 on 9 then? If so, I agree.
I never said that all the cards were unjustified. Anything on a breakaway should have been booked. Above should have been a red.

What the fuck was that call on David Villa's flop? Why was the striker for Netherlands not given the PK for playing the game it was meant to be played (i.e. not flopping) but rather given the yellow for complaining? Answer these questions for me?

IMO, If this game was in South America between South American teams, this ref does not leave the stadium alive.

Diego Forlan wins the Golden Ball. Shocked it wasnt one of the mids from Spain, but congrats to Forlan. He was the best player on his team for sure and carried them to the Semis.

Regardless, Iniesta was offside by a yard when that ball was played, blown call by the linesman IMO especially that late in the game.

Well, he wasn't given a PK because it wasn't in the box, for one.

Ummm, advantage. You can get a yellow and advantage, but not a foul and advantage. Plus it wasnt a PK. It was a foul on Puyol who wasnt gonna get a second yellow.

You cant argue a call that long and not get a yellow. Not sure what the complaint is there.

Laws of the game must not apply in every game that I was a part of during high school and college. Every instance (4 times) resulted in a Red, one of which was given against me.
