I forget what thread I said it on, but I was pleading for Howard Webb to officiate the final game a few weeks ago. I got my wish!!! Thank God. He is far and away the best referee in my eyes.

Interesting fact given by ESPN today, this will be the first time ever that a WC final doesn't include either Brazil, Argentina, Germany or Italy.

I always knew Spain was divided with Madrid/Spain and Barcelona/Catalonia but had no clue it was THIS bad. Also goes to show why Barcelona vs Real Madrid is the biggest rivalry in (non-international) sports.

My family had a foreign exchange student from Catalonia for a year and we've been over to visit a couple times. Most everyone in the region wants to separate and form their own country, and some people get mad when their language (Catalan) is referred to as Spanish. Every time we go EVERYBODY seems to have to voice their opinion on the issue, and apparently it's been getting much worse of late.

With that said...

¡Permeti victória de España!

By non-international, do you mean football or all sports? IMO it's huge but not the fiercest. IMO, the biggest derby in football is the "Old Firm" of Celtic vs Rangers.......people die when those two meet.

These teams are definitely playing physical.

Though, since it's 2 European teams there is plenty of diving and bitching to go with it.

Ha, Dutch currently with 2 corners to 1 to my count because the keeper just missed a ball. Nice.

I have a question. Are there any American refs in FIFA? I don't think there was a single one at this WC, was there?

the best chance was that last one by Robben...but he's so left footed he had to set that thing up too much to qet off a quality shot.

I thought Ramos had the best chance on his header that Steklenberg saved, that had some power behind it and stretched the keeper.
