I'm not saying this as an anti-soccer thread, but this has turned out to be a great ballgame.

Heated. Tension. And right now tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 9th.

A great game, and not to get into soccer lol, but this is why you cover the World Cup. This was the biggest game of the MLB today and frankly who gives a fuck who wins? It has turned into a great game, but it literally has no meaning to me, and I am an avid baseball fan. Hell, Ive been postin gon here more than watching.

I'm sure it's doing ok in the New York and Los Angeles markets.

Midwest people probably aren't as interested.

But it's been great. Good crowd. Some intensity for a June game. Yankees with four runs in the ninth and then the Cano home run.

I've done basically the same thing through the soccer and baseball games.

Post on here while letting the games go on in the background. I watched the Pirates game before this one. I did check out Grown Ups earlier.

the problem is though i am getting tired of seeing the same 4 or 5 teams play on espn. yankees, mets ,red sox pretty much play in every game. i get it that it is a big market, but i dont even bother turning on the channel anymore to watch because i dont care to see the same team play every time. would be nice to see a little variety.

I guess my point is, the majority of America doesnt care about this games outcome. While the World Cup may not be #1 on the minds of people in every market, it is probably at least #2. Overall, it is by far the biggest thing going. ESPN would be pretty dumb to not have it be their lead on the website while the games were being played.

Ohio Chatter isn't a true representation of baseball fans. People in Ohio obviously hate the Yankees. But the Yankees playing the Dodgers, the two biggest markets in the country, is bigger than I think you're giving it credit for.

In the World Series sure. In the middle of the season, I dont think people are that concerned with the outcome. Maybe I am way off base, but while you think Im underestimating baseball, I think your underestimating the World Cup.

I haven't even turned over to the Yankees-Dodgers game. I've been watching World Cup Live and Fox Soccer Report since about 11 lol.

Not even Yankees fans care very much for one game out of 160.

Lose a WC game and you could be done for four years. The Yankees lose this game and the still have like 85 more or something like that to make up for it. There is no drama at all until like August at the earliest.

There is plenty of intensity and passion for baseball.

Ehh, the Yankees and Red Sox have so many fans that even if a lot of them are not that interested in one game there are still enough interested to add up to a lot of viewers.

Yeah and nobody buys any mechandise or cares about the US soccer team for another 3 1/2 years under this great format.

We all have pretty much agreed on this point. This whole argument started because for some reason (and I still havent seen a good reason from you) you think ESPN should not be covering the World Cup RIGHT NOW. We all know soccer wont get coverage after, but it would be dumb to not cover the worlds #1 event.

Exactly. It's not hard to shit on others parades. Notice that I don't usually comment on baseball threads because I'm not all that fond of it? I don't go into every baseball thread bitching that the games are 5 hours long and all of the good players are on like 5 teams that are constantly in the playoffs. I just don't go to them because I don't care for it.

It started because I feel the US loss was very deflating for the momentum the World Cup had created over the previous few weeks. Then today they were trying their best to recover and push these other matches.

They have all of their reporters already over there so they'll keep shoving it down everyone's throat for a few days even though the party is basically over.

They'll keep covering it because it's the World Fucking Cup. Not because they are already invested with reporters. It's because it's a huge deal in the sporting world.

Do you complain about all of the Olympics coverage when it's on because no one cares about track and field or skiing or gymnastics except for once every four years?

This is just STUPID.

Do you think ESPN thought the United States would go all the way before they committed to airing the World Cup? NO! ESPN isn't stupid, they know what the fuck they're doing.

Not only that, but ESPN airs soccer that has NOTHING to do with the United States. They had the rights to broadcast English Premiere League games as well as the UEFA Champions League, I do believe. Why do they do this? Because it has a ratings benefit to it. Ratings is profit because they sell ad space.

This isn't that hard to understand, whether or not you want to believe it, Soccer has a pretty decent sized following here in America, and it's not just for the USMNT.

The sooner you realize this, the better off you'll be.

Now that I know you're generalzod, this ALL makes sense. I remember you complaing that the NBA was getting TOO MUCH COVERAGE ON ESPN DURING THE SEASON!!!! Seriously, you make 0 sense with this argument.

I watched some of the game last night. I do kind of get tired of seeing the same 3 teams (Yanks, Sawks, Mets) but I usually do catch the game.

Obviously "I wear Pants" isn't a baseball fan haha. "There is no drama until August" That there makes me laugh.

NYY, Boston, Tampa separated by 3 games
Minnesota, Detroit, and Chicago separated by 1.5 games
Texas and Anaheim separated by 4.5 games
Atlanta, New York, and Philly separated by 2.5 games
St. Louis and Cincy are separated by a 1/2 game
San Diego is +4 games

Those are some tight races. It should be a fun summer for us baseball fans. With that being said, I'm not going to sell the World Cup short. It's a great spectacle and millions care about the outcomes.

I agree, I like watching both sport and I don't know why it always has to be a pissing contest about whos sport is better. One person will defend their sport then go on ripping somebody else's for the same things they were defending theirs about. Their are sports that I don't like watching but you don't see me go around calling it boring or stupid because their is obviously some people that love it.

As Laley said in another thread most people over 40 hate the sport. It's mostly young people trying to be different and thinking the sport has suddenly become so much better than it's been for all this time when the US ignored it.

The only reason to like La Liga is because of the name to tell everyone you like La Liga. It's a freaking act.
