Not bashing ytown, but I think in general grown men pay way to much attention to where high schoolers want to go to college. How can you hate someone for not going to a school that you also never attended? (and even if you did go there, why is it such a bad thing that a different person wants something else for themselves?)

Hobbit, I did go to OSU and have a son at OSU now, not that it really matters. What you and others seem to forget is that it wasn't young Henderson's decision as much as it was his old man's. If I remember correctly, his father is/was an aspiring rap artist and felt USC was a better fit for "Santreal" being in the L.A. area. I don't bash anyone for their decision, but Santreal didn't make this one, his father did. "They" went to USC for all the wrong reasons, none of which seem to have revolved around what was best for the kid actually attending. Proving they're incapable of making rational decisions, based on logical priorities, it's easy to come to the conclusion that you wish NOT to have him attend the institution in which you've had and do have a vested interest.

I just was making a general comment that there are a lot of fans who take OSU football very seriously and their only tie is that they live in the same state as the school. (I'm fairly sure you can sub in the name of any university that participates in big time college football.) They HATE kids who have no clue what they are doing, but are trying to make a decision that is going to affect the rest of their lives.

We have a guy on OC who thinks a guy should seek permission from him before asking his 17 year old daughter out, yet you have a problem with a parent assisting in which decision their son plays football at?

How do you know what reasons they chose on attending USC?

I can't disagree with that. Likewise though, there are an equal number of those who feel qualified to slam others who feel the way I do. If you're not a fan, didn't attend, like another school, it's incredibly simple to discount the reasons I and a lot of others feel the way we do about "upholding the torch" for lack of a better term.

I don't hate kids making their own decisions and/or mistakes, it's how people learn. This kid wasn't afforded the opportunity by his father. The comparison made between Turner and Henderson earlier is a fucking joke. Turner's problems didn't happen until after the process, Henderson's issues were part of the process. Huge, unmistakable difference.

how do you know this kid was given the opportumity to make his own selection? this bullshit about his father making the call is all speculation. no one really knows for sure. but thats how it goes in buckeye nation whenever a recruit decides OSU isnt the place he wants to attend, then there has to be a some outside force making the call. maybe watching OSU get slapped around by the likes of florida, lsu, usc, or texas probably had little to do with the decision? its easy to see a why a kid would pick , usc or miami for that matter over the cow town c-bus.

Yea, apparently no one in their right mind would choose another school. It's just such a close minded thought process. To say the kid didn't make his own decision is just dumb as well. Did his dad have input? I'm sure he did, as he should.

You made the claim that OSU has to withhold this classy percepction, so no, the Jamel Turner comparisons were not wrong. Although that's not the norm in Columbus, it happened. And don't think for one second Tressel didn't know about this kid and his life outside of football.

Turner wasn't a thug just because he got shot. He was a thug before that, it just became evident to most people after the fact.

Henderson and Turner are 2 completely different kids and 2 completely different stories. And yes, Henderson's dad did pick his son's school. That was common knowledge a long time ago.

I didn't say I knew, but the fact is that Tressel knew his history. You don't transfer to a military academy just for the hell of it.

Who cares where either one of these guys go college or if they even go, Henderson would not be considered for entry into any college if he wasn't a top athlete because of poor grades and low test scores (18 ACT). Turner, how can he possibly be eligible, he hasn't finished the last two years of school and as was mentioned is nothing but a thug. Give the money to the kids who deserve it and forget guys like this.

I think that all of us would hope that kids make the right choices for themselves athletically. Parents sometimes in their excitement, step in and "muddy" the waters considerably. I don't know anything about this Rap Music thing regarding Henderson's father, but if it is true, this is a terrible reason to send your son so Dad can try and prosper. Not everyone wants to go to Ohio State, even though many of us think that it would be a great idea and would help our Bucks continue to be successful on the football field, but there are quite a few schools around the country that provide an opportunity to play against top notch competition and go to major bowls. Not everyone can qualify for admission in Columbus. Not every player will be able to live with the discipline of some programs. Not every player will do the work OFF THE FIELD that will be required at certain schools, Ohio State being one of them. Other potential recruits unfortunately eliminate themselves before they even walk on campus by doing stupid things and then repeating them. Then we spend an inordinate amount of time saying "Yes, but this is really a good kid stuck in the wrong environment. Just give him another chance and I'm sure he will blossom at this school or that school". College sports is a business and colleges don't want to waste a lot of money on a kid who repeatedly messes up and is in the dog house from the get go. Finally, what does the kid himself want? I put it last because I think that's where most avid fans put it.

Personally...I honestly don't want Henderson at OSU. Just have a feeling he would be an issue. With what OSU has returning and the high expectations for this upcoming season...they don't need any kind of distractions. Not only that, he is anything but a sure bet. Seen many a highly touted Oline coming out of HS not live up to expectations. OSU is currently stacking up a very good recruting class that has a number of lineman committed already. More will come now with Miller in the fold. Henderson will not make or break OSU. And as mentioned, I am not so sure he will/would qualify. Football is going to get a "couple" of passes on recruits as far as admissions. They may have used those up already. My guess is that if USC does let him out of his committment...he will end up at the "U" anyways.
