Then two shallow pop ups from Heisey & Stubbs followed by a Strikeout from Ramon... Reds leave the bases loaded after 0 outs

That was ugly. If the Reds are still in contention do they look at getting someone to replace Stubbs at the deadline? He needs his ABs but he'd still be a valuable 4th outfielder.

A dinged-up Cabrera is better than a healthy Paul Janish. If Cabrera was so hurt he wouldn't have played the day game after the night game. He is fine. He is just slumping right now.

Not saying he "must" be the leadoff guy, just saying Janish isn't better

From Lance Mccallister's blog:

Over his last 26 games dating back to May 25th, Cabrera is 19 for 105, batting .181 and has an obp of .216.
Believe it or not the Reds are even weaker than last year in the leadoff spot:
2010 .224 avg .281 obp
2009 .254 avg .302 obp

Seriously, at least Janish is great on defense.

Maybe Cabrera is just here for good karma.....last 3 years he's been on 3 different teams and all made the postseason...let's make it 4

Cabrera...hurt or not needs some EXTRA days off...he's not producing at all righ now and hasn't for the month of June.....he was hitting .281 on May 24th.....he's down 45 points in less than a month....it's hot and he's played nearly 1800 career games at SS

This all being said.....Brandon Phillips is tearing it up and scoring run after run.....but how in the hell is Phillips been SOOOOO hot and Cabrera been so cold and Phillips in a marginally better RBI spot and have 12 more at bats with RISP and Cabrera still have 3 more RBI??????

My Reds batting order the next 3 days:

1 Phillips
2 Janish
3 Votto
4 Rolen
5 Gomes
6 Bruce
7 Stubbs
8 Hernandez

Bring Cabrera back after 3 games off (he can pinch hit run etc) and bring him back batting 6th or 7th and let Bruce bat #2 with Phillips staying 1st......can't have .275 OB% leading off for an extended time....Phillips has figured his strengths out more times than not now

Cabrera does need rest like everybody else, I agree there. Cabrera has nice long track record, I still think if you give him time, and maybe take him out of that leadoff spot he'll be fine.

Cabrera really doesn't have a nice track record. The guy, over the past 3 years, has a combined OPS around .700 and an OBP around .305. He's a veteran, and solid, but his run earlier this year was an anomale and he IS a weak spot on the team. Everyone hates on Janish but can you honestly say he's much worse at this point? Defensively, Janish blows Cabrera away, especially range-wise.

I've been trying to say this for a few days now. At the least, the 2 need to be splitting time more.

Sometimes I forget Janish is even on the team.....

not nearly as often as Dusty forgets he's on the team

Dusty just looks through the dugout for options and wonders why the hell Jimmy Kimmel is doing in the dugout and whose uniform is he wearing?

All those clutch RBIs by Cabrera is the only thing that makes you want to keep him in the line-up ahead of Janish, but recently he has not been good, and dinged up, so I agree that it would be good to give him the Cleveland series off, let Janish have some playing time and see if he can sharpen up with some playing time.
