That's one of my pet peeves, I know that players/coaches/organizations are judged by championships, but only one team can win a championship each year. Does that mean that there is only one good owner/coach/player in each given year?

I don't think anyone can say that Mark Cuban isnt' a good owner, and Jerry Jones has won championships, so I'm not sure what your argument was there.

You're right about Jerry Jones winning championships. Completely forgot about that.

My point is that OWNERS need to be OWNERS and delegate the sports side of the business to their GM's and coaches. When a Mark Cuban sneaks down by the coach or Al Davis calls down from his owners suite and is telling WHO the coach should play or is selecting the players FOR the GM/coach, you have a MAJOR problem. Yes, they may own the team but that's NOT a winning formula.

I totally agree with you. However, I just don't know if Gilbert has overstepped his boundaries or not? But at the same time, I do expect the owners to have some input. You can't have an owner who thinks he knows better than his GM, that's when it's a problem and I think that's the situation sometimes in Dallas.

It's hard to complain about Gilbert when he has been willing to pay the luxury tax and has put a winner on the floor. However, people may be giving him too much credit for getting lucky enough to land Lebron. We will really see how good of an owner he is if Lebron leaves.

I think Gilbert hiring Ferry was a mistake in the first place. Ferry only had a couple years experience in the front office, and that led to Ferry making bad move after bad move.

And honestly, Cleveland's roster wasn't even that good where you would expect the luxury tax. Other than Lebron you had a bunch of average NBA players, so I give Gilbert some credit for being willing to overpay a bunch of guys, even though it wasn't the smartest decision.

I agree that owners should probably not get involved in personnel decisions. However if they choose to insert themselves into that position, I feel they have every right to do so. They are after all paying the bills.

I'm with dynasty though on the other part. An owner can run a great organization without winning a championship. I mean I hate the Steelers but I wouldn't have said they were a bad organization before they won those recent Super Bowls. I also wouldn't have said that the Arizona Cardinals were a "great" organization if they would have won the Super Bowl a while back. We all know how dysfunctional the Bidwell family is.

I have no issue with Gilbert and the luxury tax. He is one of the better if not the best owner in that aspect. I just don't like the way he handled this Izzo thing. He took the ball and ran with it balls to the wall thinking it was a lock that Izzo was his. In the mean time, he may have just upped the price for lesser coaches.

I really think that he (Gilbert) is so cocksure of himself that he is delusional in thinking that if Lebron leaves that they will still be a championship contender.

They have the right to do so but they won't win any championships if that's their goal.

Steelers are probably a bad example. Their ownership has been solid since the 70's.

Gilbert really screwed the pooch on the Izzo thing. I think he thought money would get it done, but he should have known every coach wants to wait and see what Lebron does. He should have waited until early July before he started his search. Now because he forced Izzo's hand early, Izzo doesn't want to gamble on Lebron. Plus... he inadvertently let the money aspect get out. Now he'll probably have to pay that crazy salary to a guy who would have been happy with much less.

I think he's saying things to the fans and media along the lines of, "We are bigger than just one player." But if anyone knows how valuable Lebron is to the Cavs, it's Gilbert. He knows that if Lebron leaves, he loses a ton of money, and I don't care if he has billions, no one wants to lose $100 million over night.

He knows they don't have a contender without Lebron and I'm sure he's freaking out about life without Lebron.

I also agree that the Izzo situation probably wasn't handled right, but that's what happens when you are trying to hire someone away from an already great situation. He wasn't going after someone unemployed (Scott), so he had to really recruit Izzo. With that said, I don't think it raises the price for the next guy. Just because you are offering $6 million to Izzo doesn't mean the next guy is entitled to that. There are enough people looking for a head coaching job in the NBA that you don't have to offer a ton of money.

I didn't want to start another thread and this may have been mentioned on one of the numerous threads (people slobbering on Kobe's nuts) but on WKNR this morning, they mention that Bucher from ESPN reported that the Cavs have reached out to Toronto regarding acquiring Chris Bosh (assuming sign & trade).

Heard this as well. I guess the Raptors like Mo Williams for some reason. If you give the Raptors Mo, JJ and possibly another filler they might take it......considerring they arent going to get anything back for him

He came out about a month ago and had a list of 5 teams he said he'd consider a sign and trade with. Cleveland wasn't one of them. I think someone came out and said it was a rumor, but I have a feeling there was some truth behind it.

Pretty sure it was a rumor and he actually was quoted saying he never gave them a list. Who knows though.

Exactly.......Bosh, his agent and the Raptors all denied that this list was ever made.

I know he said it was a rumor, but I tend to believe these things when they come out. I know that people can form their own opinions, but there's no doubt in my mind that Bosh has a list of teams he would be willing to accept a sign and trade to. But he doesn't want everyone to know, just his agent and the Toronot front office, so of course they are going to deny it.

I agree with you but you cant say he doesnt want to play somewhere just because of a rumored list. No one knows but him if he would like to play somewhere. I'd venture to guess he would be cool with playing in cleveland if Bron comes back.

I'm with you guys. I think Gilbert and Grant will do everything they can to make this team better. I dont see the Bosh trade happening but something will go down either before the draft or before the FA period on July 1st. I expect the Cavs to make a couple trades and possibly look for a way to get back into the draft.

Let's see, Bosh can play with Wade in Miami or play in Cleveland possibly with Lebron. I'd take Miami 366 days a year.

Cavs are the better organization. Wade has been upset with the Heat front office over the past couple years. You like to talk about the Cavs making "bad" moves.......well at least they are trying. The Heat have shown Dwayne NOTHING over the past couple years. Gilbert is by FAR the better owner to play for right now.
