Hey, no problem guys. I just find myself unable to stop thinking about the finale, it had a profound impact on me without a doubt. I see the show as this:

This is a normal prime time TV show, and they went on a very deep metaphysical level with this finale. I am in no way religious, but the idea that the relationships we hold will allow us to move on to the next stage of life is very, very powerful.

I wasn't in love with it at first. I wanted the answers to little mysteries like the hurley bird, but I literally cannot stop thinking about the finale. After reading the bad robot recap (which is great), I can buy that they came down on the side of faith on the show, and showed that the science was not the answer.

The writers have crafted a show that makes us think about the very way we live our lives. Don't take the people you know for granted (michael, ben). You always have a chance to change your ways; to start with a blank slate (Tabula Rasa). People have the ability and capacity for unbelievable good, even when their pasts are murky (looks like Jacob was right!).

The finale has grown on me immensely, and I now look at my family and friends in a much closer way. We all have free will people, go out there and use it for some good.

I just cant get over how all the way back to episode 1 they have tied the entire series together. Little details in virtually EVERY episode I can think of related to the finale. THAT to me is what made it such a great show and finale, alone with many other reasons.

Great read Tiger. Show was incredibly influential and gave everyone something to think about, whether it be about religion, faith, science, or whatever else you interpret.

But, from a more "behind the scenes" note: the reason Ben's not in the church, and the reason no one is in the church but for Season 1 people is because they wrote the ending to the show after writing the pilot. And never changed it. The writers always said (and many didn't believe them) that they knew their ending from the very first episode. I applaud them for that. It's pretty fantastic. Originally Ben was supposed to have a 3 episode arc and be done. But he became a big part of the show. They could have easily changed their ending and put him in the church -- but instead they problem solved it. Gave him a BRILLIANT moment with Locke outside the church ... and then that was it. I loved that. For those that wonder -- the original ending started the moment Jack walked into the church and touches the casket to Jack closing his eyes as the other plane flies away. That was always JJ's ending. And they kept it.

Maybe I need to watch it again, but weren't Desmond and Penny in the church?

^^ Desmond was a character they always knew about. But Libby was in the church too. I think they may have left it open to add a couple of people at the end, they just didn't want ben since he really did not share the plight of the plane crash people. Desmond was closely tied to them, and penny was looking for them forever.

It never says that it was only people on the plane. They said they wrote it after the pilot.

But you do have to assume some things changed. For example, Walt got too big, so he couldn't be there, etc...

Ben wasn't directly tied to the plane. I am sure their story arc included desmond and libbey as they were both in the first two seasons and directly related to our losties. Ben wasn't ever supposed to be a huge character.

Tiger (and others), I had already read that piece by someone claiming to work for Bad Robot who worked as a writer on the show but, while some of it may be accurate, I highly doubt that it was actually written by a writer for the show. First of all, the grammar, structure, and tone throughout is horrible. If it was done by someone who worked as a writer for the show, it would have been much more well written. Also, they claim that the ending was exactly the same as it was written after the Pilot was written, however you can't make that claim and then also have Desmond, Penny, Juliette, and Libby in the church. I could reasonably understand that Desmond and Juliette were characters they had planned from the beginning, but I can't rightfully justify Penny and especially Libby, ho were relatively insignificant characters, being in the church. The ending may have been the basic ending envisioned from the beginning, but the specifics had to have changed and evolved as the show changed and evolved.

Also, as far as I can find, the original source of this post is on a New Orleans Saints message board.

If anyone can find an earlier posting of this or some more info that supports its (flimsy) validity, I'd love to see it.

Oh well, whether it is valid or not is irrelevant. It is a great outlook on the series. And I am sure they wanted the "church" scene from the beginning, but yeah, some characters are gonna be switched around.

who cares if it was a writer from the show who wrote it? its a well written summation of what the finale meant.

^^Now THAT would have made for an interesting plot twist! Amazingly, that wouldn't even rank in the top 10 of weirdest stuff that happened on this show ...

Lol yeah I agree. I would say the sky turning purple when desmond turned the failsafe at the hatch and the wheel moving the island were my biggest WTF moments on the show.

That video is literally made of pure awesomeness though, lol.
