If Massillon makes it this year, and at the last minute, they change the location to Fort Worth TX., Believe me, I'm still there. No whining, I'm just there.

Why do people always argue "what the kids want". If they'd made it that far to be in a state championship game, there is one answer to what they want: to WIN the state championship.

The fans should be more of who decides....they're the ones having to travel, find a hotel if necessary, pay for gas, park, deal with traffic, pay for tickets, use the facilities, and, you know, WATCH THE GAME. The fans are paying the money that the OHSAA is collecting, not the players. They're reward is a trophy with either silver or gold on it and the eternal glory.

That being said....Stark County can point to their numbers and show that they've put on amazing state finals every year. Columbus can point to the supposedly boring state championships they held back in the late 80's (according to many I've talked to). Everyone that wants the finals in CBus says they'd go if it was in CBus, but theres no guarantee they would. I foresee that if the finals move, the attendance won't really change. Some people that used to go won't go now, and others who never did will go. Those numbers are inconsequential. The bigger crowds come with certain schools being in the finals and good matchups. If the state finals were in my back yard and it was 2 teams I never heard of, I wouldn't go. If it were Iggy and Elder, I'd go. Simple as that.

Just more of the "C's" people trying to take away something the rest of state has. Get's a bit old.

I think Faucett is better than Massilon. Both are impressive for HS. We are talking about venues for a football game and I think ALL stadiums should be considered HS College and Pro.
I think there is a huge difference between the Shoe and just about any stadium anywhere period. HS NFL cCollege

You're right. I feel the same way about Steubenville. Now that I am moving back home, I plan to see all the games no matter where they are played.

If you're such a huge fan and all, you would know that it is "Fawcett", not "Faucett". It's obvious that you're a big Buckeye fan, so you're bias about Ohio Stadium, but did you attend any of those games back in the 80's? I've been there 5 times for high school games, and it just wasn't that great of an atmosphere.

Am I a big Buckeye fan? Yes! I'm an even bigger Steeler fan but Heinz Field isn't remotely close to the Shoe(neither is Cleve and Cinci although I think Cinci's stadium is the nicest of the 3) I've been to dozens of big venue stadiums so I know what I'm comparing the Shoe to.
And I love HS football too! Am I into HS football like you MOW? No, thank God! I do have a life!

I'm not the king of anything, except my little castle, but for you to say that Paul Brown Tiger Stadium is just another stadium makes you lose all credibility. Do some research. Read about the past history of Ohio high school football. Then you wouldn't say that PBTS and "Faucet" are just stadiums. Those stadiums were hosting big time games back when Ohio State was an agricultural school that nobody took seriously.

Massillon and Canton gave birth to professional football. That is enough right there for kids to be excited about playing there.

I've been there and we were so into the game the stadium didn't matter. Our team loved it though, for all but 1 of them it was a once in a lifetime opportunity! One game we sat in the sun in the upper deck all by ourselves. It was great.

Listen....I've said it earlier in the thread, and I'll say it again, bottom line, if you want to complain about anything pertaining to the finals, the only thing that carries water, location wise, is drive time. For those of you complaining about "crappy stadiums", "the parking situation", "police dogs"....Or even "being located too close to the freeway", those are just childish complaints, and will not be taken seriously. If the finals are moved, believe me, it won't be because of any of these.

Is this the kind of atmosphere you want for the State Championships?? Not I, my friends.

Instead, this is my choice for the Ohio State Football Championships!!!

I've given props to both for being great HS stadiums. I said FaWcett holds more weight than MassilLon's stadium because of the HOF and NFL factor.
It is what it is. I was comparing it to the Shoe, not to other HS venues(there is no comparison!). I think there are nicer HS venues than Massillon(Harding Stadium comes to mind), but they don't have as much history and tradition or are as big.

As far as where it's played. If my sons ever get a chance to play in a final, I'd go to Portsmouth to see them play. That's not the point.

Actually it is a picture of Florida State's Doak Campbell Stadium for a game with North Carolina State with ONLY 67,712 in attendance. I was just trying to show the lack of atmosphere in a big stadium with a small crowd attending, such as when the state championships used to be in Ohio Stadium.

I felt the championship games we saw in the '80's at OSU lacked lots. 10,000 people in a 100,000 seat facility destroys the atmosphere. They would have been much more enjoyable at Paul Brown Tiger or Fawcett.

Obviously, some disagree with that. That is their prerogative. But for my money, keep them in Massillon and Canton.

I have to agree... I was with a couple friends just today talking about this topic. The one guy from Massillon said he shows up last minute at the finals games in Stark County on many occasions. Having been associated with a team in the 80"s playing at the 'Shoe and also many teams playing in Massillon and at Fawcett, I can attest that the games in Stark County were far superior given the stadiums where played.

I am one of the rarer breeds in Cbus. HS football and athletics are not supported here like other areas in the state. It's because of tOSU AND because of so many transient people that moved here. Not many "native" Cbusers. Just like me, I didn't grow up here. Most people don't have that die hard relationship with the HS until their kids go thru the program. That hurts the attendance at HS sporting events. Most of my friends that are from the Cbus area live in a different suburb than where they grew up and went to school. And some that have stayed in the same town/burb now have their kids going to a sister school because of the multi splitting in districts. It's Very different.

They come for the wrestling finals where that sport is even more Northeast heavy than football.
There are pluses and minuses for both locations.
