Someone asked "why are they so big? Someone is listening to them and buying the albums right?" Of course they are, and I think, you guys are missing a HUGE part of this equation. I truly believe that by and large, MALES will not admit to liking Nickelback in public, but would admit to a hot girl they liked them if they ask them. In essence, Nickelback is the following women's favorite rock band>>>young girls not in high school yet...older women/cougars(they think they're really heavy and rebellious)....strippers of course....completely apathetic women that have no knowledge of what good music is. See, that's a huge cross section of people buying albums. In turn, Nickelback struck at the right time. Also, you'll find a lot of guys on steroids that love Nickelback oddly enough. Anyway, that doesn't change the fact that....you can argue all you want...Nickelback sucks, and they suck bad...musically speaking of course.

I also personally do not like Nirvana and think they are tremendously overrated due to Cobain offing himself.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion on the matter.
usually I can see someone's POV even if I don't agree with it...but I just can't understand liking NB and not liking Nirvana. Maybe I can see not liking Nirvana, but how someone can like NB is beyond me. They inhale some serious chode.

for some people, Nirvana just isn't a good sound or something that they like. I'm one of those people. Had a roommate who would probably suck Cobain's dick if he had to, so I was exposed to it a lot, and never could grow to like it. Just like he could never grow to like all of the Poison that I listened to. Each person has their own taste.

If a dude likes Nickelback(I don't like everything they do, but there are a few songs here and there that catch your attention), what's the big deal?

Okay, I get it now. Because you don't like them...that's why they're the worst ever and why their music is "shitty.". 10-4, roger that....I understand...

????

As for Britney, NSYNC, Backstreet boys....there a millions of people who would argue that those are some of the greatest pop groups of all-time. So I don't understand that comparison. I don't like any of them and never have...but I respect and understand those who think they are the GOAT.

its not a big deal. you just don't have an ear for good music if you like NB is all. They are awful, no talent hacks

this topic comes up every month. I don't ever see threads asking if Nirvana is the worst band ever. Or if Pearl Jam is the worst band ever.

This thread always floats and has a lot of people passionately expressing their hate for Nickelback. Hmmmm........

There are a lot of people out there who think that Nickelback is in fact one of the worst EVER.

Ummmm...it's my Chad Kroeger tatoo that's really the reason behind my anger....

:D

Seriously, I'm not mad at all. I just want people to realize that you can't generalize an entire group/band or their music based on your opinion of them.

You can't seriously read Nickelback lyrics and tell me they aren't some of the most dull, uninspired lyrics ever written by a band of their "popularity".

You say you don't want it
Just watch and you'll flaunt it
You stare at the ceiling
And ignore what I'm feeling

Well that's fine, hey I don't mind
I can find nothing wrong with it
And you say in your polite way
Oh by the way can you get on with it?

Now that I've seen
Not really Diggin This!

I get that, which is why I don't make fun of people if they listen to Nickelback.

The thing with me isn't so much their sound (which I find generic but whatever people like different things) but their writing. That is, the lyrics. They are objectively horrible. It's just poor writing.

Children all have saviors
Children don't care who saves us
Round the corner, round the bend
Fingernails torn to the end

Bring back, bring back
Bring back, bring back on me
On me

I wanna go until the neighbors all complain
Because they heard somebody screaming
And they think we're both in pain
I wanna go so long, your parents think you died
They're gonna call the cops, the CIA and then the FBI

The thing with people and their music tastes nowadays....if it's popular, it's probably bad. You guys have to remember huge corporate producers produce songs meant for the lowest common denominator. Half of all people are below average, so it doesn't take all that much to pop out a hit song.

Nickelback is absolutely terrible. End of story. If you disagree with that you are probably a racist homophobe who hates himself. :)

strapping- in ten years i have never had a request for a nirvana song. i am talking about all different events, not just dances. receptions, bars, weddings, jr high dance's, proms, reunions(this would be the one where i would think somebody would have requested their music), sorority mixers, christmas parties, relay for life walks, etc. not one single request and i do every gig so i know that there hasnt been any slip by. this is a very diverse mix of age group. sorry to rain on your parade. its just the experience that ive had with music and people that im talking about, not a bunch of what-ifs.

That's all well and good. Alot of people eat Nickelback up. But, if you can read Nickelback lyrics and find them creative, thought-provoking, or anything else people value as artful then maybe you ought to broaden your horizons.

Nirvana is not the end-all, be-all for me. I think they're good but there are plenty of better bands and I'd be willing to bet you've never had a request for their songs either.

How many Slayer songs do you get requests for? Mastodon? Rage against the Machine? System of a down? Lamb of God?

That's what I thought.

Those bands are not usually the bands most people listen to at a traditional bat mitzvah, wedding, graduation party, dance, etc.
