- 11th best selling act of the 2000's (ALL genres)
- 27 million albums sold worldwide since 2001
- 1.65 million concert tickets sold
- Billboard's 7th best "Artist" of the decade
- 11 billboard top hits on 5 albums

Yep...those stats look like those of the "worst band ever."

Those stats just reaffirm how bad music in the 2000's is. Come on, they are competing with incredible bands the likes of Maroon 5, Daughtry, and My Chemical Romance.

Modern music is awful.

Maybe we could listen to another song where Beyonce repeats the same lyric 150 times?

Stats don't lie. You can't say they're the "worst" when they put out numbers like that...regardless of how crappy music is.

And for the record, not everyone agrees that music is bad in the 2000's. It's definitely changing, but music always has. Just because you don't like a genre or band, doesn't make them bad. It's your refusal to listen to what is considered "mainstream."

What's happening is the 70's and 80's generation are turning into their parents. "Music these days is crap." The fact is, it's music today and the newer generations enjoy it. We're classic now...our music that was hip in our day is classic and oldies.

Half of the shit on your ipod comes from people who have less talent in their whole body than Kurt Cobain and Johnny Rzeznik had/have in their pinky finger (see: Jonas Brothers). You gotta love people that tell you one of the top 10 bands of all time is "shit" and then they have Vanilla Ice and douchebags like Justin Beiber and the Jonas Brothers complete albums on repeat 24/7.
Perfect example of how OVERRATED THEY ARE.

Talented? Immensely

Good? Yes

One of the best? Absolutely not.

No man, the music today by and large is garbage. Emo is the new hair band, and Nickelback is the new whatever the fuck was garbage back in the day. Nickelback is awful. Squared. Honestly. They Suck. Period. /Thread

...and the 27 million people who bought one of their albums obviously disagree. I understand why you feel that way...but you and a majority of the people saying they suck on here are outnumbered.

I'm not a Nickelback fan. I'm not defending them because I like their music. The fact is, they've done far too much to be considered the "worst band ever." In fact, if you base it on statistics...they are closer to one of the "greatest bands ever."

You have to put your ill-feelings of them aside and be objective.

I wouldn't say they're the worst. Seen some really bad bands that opened for some major acts (The Answer, opening for AC/DC) that make you want to run and hide.

So no, not the worst ever, but certainly not everyone's cup of listening tea either

Your argument about things being popular meaning they must be quality is stupid.

How do you know the guys from Nickleback haven't been buying up all of their own albums to pad their sales?

That's my theory.

I do not know a single person who likes them or has bought an album of theirs.

That is ranging from my nieces 10 year old friends to my parents 60 year old friends.

Maybe their target audience is 1-9 year olds and 70-100 year olds?

That's your opinions gentlemen! I also have a poor opinion of them. But you can't judge something based on your opinion only.

To you, they may be the worst band ever. But in general...there is no argument. They're not, they're closer to one of the best. That's all I'm saying.

Just to summarize, this guy is a dj, he thinks Nirvana is the worst band, and he could listen to Nickelback for a long time.

How do they pad the sold out arenas and #1 hits? Seriously...think about that.

Nickelback is bad but the worst band ever is probably a stretch.

Oh and whoever said Nirvana was the worst ever is crazy.

because there is a large segment of the US who doesn't have any idea of what good music is, they simply aren't exposed to it. It's like me being fed all my life hamburger, not knowing steak is out there...but if you asked me what my fav meat was I'd say hamburger. Now, would you assume I like hamburger more than steak? Sure, but you wouldn't know i've never had steak...point being if you're not exposed to good music you don't know what it is

Put it this way, Spiderman 3 and Transformers 2 sold tons of tickets. Are they good movies? Nope.

Something being popular has nothing to do with its quality.

Or are you going to tell me the Macarena was one of the best songs of the 90s?

It's b/c a large portion of the population of the U.S. is fucking stupid. They only look as far as the local rock station to find their music.

Thos numbers arent even on the same planet as the numbers for the greatest bands ever. There are countless groups that have sold over 50 million. Elton John beat those number with ONE SONG! (Candle in the Wind...roughly 36 million copies of the single sold).

If you think they are near the greatest then what do you think about:

Backstreet Boys - roughly 100 million sold
N'Sync - roughly 50 million sold
Britney Spears - roughly 80 million sold

Are these music legends? Britney maybe?

The whole argument is subjective because there is no way to definitively prove who is the greatest or worst. I personally like Nickelback and think they have some good songs. I also personally do not like Nirvana and think they are tremendously overrated due to Cobain offing himself.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion on the matter.

Well yeah, but Nickelback has that perfect mix of generic sound, having songs that all sound the same, and having terrible writing that puts them up there in this discussion.
