Cops get nothing but a bad rap in media, but this cop did an outstanding job. Can't see if the driver is out of the car,what hes doing or anything, so he's got to treat this situation per protocol. Reading the thread it sounds as if the driver was having a diabetic event. My sugar always runs low and when it drops from time to time I can always feel the precursors. It's hard for me to imagine not being aware of the usual signs. On the other hand, I do know that many people have a much more difficult time controlling their sugar. It's scary to imagine not knowing what's going on and driving a vehicle on a highway!

The officer did a tremendous job, and possibly saved the lives of not only the driver, but of other people on the road as well. Not quite sure why the sarcasm in this post, because this cop should be lauded as a hero...this could’ve ended very badly.
I tend to be harder on cops than most folks, but I agree this cop did a great job.
My apartment is right by that large wall just off the highway where he was in the grass. I walk my dog right there everyday lol

First the cop obviously did a great job in getting him off the road. As for the diabetic part (I’m asking cause I don’t know)....once the driver stopped off the right side of the exit ramp and was stopped there with cruiser behind him...why would he just veer right and go thru median and back onto highway? That part seemed like he knew what he was doing.
That cop did a damn sight better than the LAPD, which have to be either totally incompetent or hampered by the most restrict rules ever when stopping a car.
Mrs. Z and I were in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl. The next day were watching a live car chase on the freeway on TV, driver had a felony warrant AND had hit a bicyclist while evading police. Cops used the PIT maneuver four (4) times, and let the guy get away each time.
Shoot, on the last PIT there were 3 cop cars involved, and they just sat there spread out while they let they guy run through them after spinning him around. They let the farce go on for 3 more hours until the guy ran out of gas - and then they shot him with a shotgun and beanbag round. Incredible.

I can only lamely describe it as being out of it, or kinda hallucinating (although I've never had it that severe). My stepfather had a few that were. He was only partially "aware" of what was going on and would yell out and act wildly and he had no control over that part. That would make it make sense to me that the driver was still partially aware and still thought that he was driving fine and didn't know he was hitting things and putting others in danger. This is, though, going on the assumption that it was a diabetic event, going by what was said in that thread. It may turn out that it was drugs or drink related.
