In all my life I’ve never heard of anyone with a first name of Gates. 

And yet, he lives on as a legend to us old Tribe fans. 

Crestline OH. 

Gates is one of two obscure players who were favorites of mine. the other was Mack Jones of the Expos. Before cable we only got Reds games in my area and the expos played at Jarry Park and they had a swimming pool behind the outfield and he hit a home run in the pool and he instantly became one of my favorite players. I was eight at the time and my parents took me to Crosley field for my first major league game and the Reds played the Expos. I got Mack's autograph and also some guys named Pete Rose and Tony Perez!

FYI...Tonight's Game (Saturday) is at 6.
