More is learned through football than in the classroom anyway. Football teaches real-life skills, while most of what is learned in the classroom doesn't apply to real-life. Some districts focus so much on academics that it becomes a distraction, and kids miss workouts. I promise you, we will never let this sort of thing happen in Massillon.
Well then, it looks like the town's priorities are where they need to be. And come to think of it, you are correct. Nothing would prepare you better for a life spent in Massillon, Ohio than making HS football a priority for those who play and those who watch. With long-term economic stagnation, a landscape of shuttered factories, a raging opioid epidemic, high unemployment, high poverty and lack of cultural opportunities, the focus should be on children playing sports and the rest of the town watching them.
Man, that 1909 team you guys had was great!
