For the first time since 1989, the European Ryder Cup team swept an entire session 4-0 when it claimed all of the matches Friday afternoon at Le Golf National. After falling behind 3-1 in the morning, the Europeans took a 5-3 lead after Day 1. Only twice since Europe was added to the Ryder Cup in 1979 has the team swept a session -- both times in the four-ball format in the afternoon on Day 1.This time it was also Day 1 in the afternoon, but foursomes.

Furyk fucked up today, royally. Hopefully tomorrow is better pairings and strategy. But good God, today was bad.

And there are people defending his afternoon lineup. It’s comical. 

He’s going with the same fourball lineup. Which won this morning 3-1. Tiger and Reed were the only loss; but instead of last, they are going off 3rd. Which is where they should have been today. 

Furyk said in his presser that he would absolutely send out the pairing of Bryson and Phil again in foursomes. That right there is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard. We’ll see what happens, but it doesn’t look good right now for the Americans. 

Look, if you want to get guys a round before singles...fine. But throw them out there tomorrow morning, when they play their own balls. Some of these guys on the US squad are so erratic, pairing them with another is a death sentence. Not having Tiger play alternate was also a mistake, if he can only go once, it should be alternate.

But yeah, Phil and Bubba should not play again until singles. Brooks and Finau should’ve been doubled up today. Just...ugh. 

Still have a great shot though, only needing the tie.

US on the verge of getting swept again. Which will all but end the Cup

Rickie has been bad. I like Webb. Probably would’ve gone Finau/Webb, but what do we know. Only point on the board right now lol

Europe up 10-6 going into the singles matches. 

Only need 8 out of 12 points tomorrow. 

Not saying they’re going to do it...but this isn’t totally lopsided like I expected the singles to be. 

Gonna be key to get lots of red up early. Make the Europeans sweat. I think USA wins singles but falls short. I’ll say half a point short.

Things are getting mighty interesting. 

JT wins 1 up after Rory falls apart on 18. He did get a horrible break in the bunker though. 

It could come down to Tiger flipping his match. Currently 1 down, 5 to play.

Did what was needed early. But the middle groups aren’t getting it done.

One day I’ll see the USA win in Europe. One day.

A few takeaways....

1.  That atmosphere is awesome and you could tell the players love it.

2.  Woods and Michelson should never play in it again.

3.  Justin Thomas has ice in those veins

My only take away is that it was a huge choke job by the Americans, plain and simple.

Patrick Reed now bitching that he was not paired with Jordan Speith and blasting Furyk over it.
