I work in a hospital. If you retire, resign, quit or get fired - your access is immediately terminated and security walks you to your car. You don't keep any keys or badges. That's just for a hospital. I don't understand the necessity of keep access forever, to security clearance.

In the early days correct, but over the last few years, the theory gained traction. But, the low confidence is the same as it was the last few years meaning nothing has changed.
