Awesome sweep. Very unexpected, considering it’s 4 games and our lineup is still trash.

Regarding the shift, I’m all for banning it. I understand why people think you should be able to play anywhere, but plenty of sports don’t allow that, and it’s for the betterment of the game. I truly believe this would help baseball.

Like what? Football defense can play anywhere, soccer can play anywhere, I assume hockey can play anywhere, basketball can play anywhere... players should learn to hit better. I don’t see how playing the odds should be banned. And what about it helps baseball?

I agree.

However, Manning and Underwood were discussing how all these strikeouts is causing less action and a loss of fan interest. I can see how banning the shift might fit into that thinking.

But bottom line for me......ya gotta learn to deal with it. It's smart baseball by the defense.

  • Football offense has very strict rules
  • Basketball defense cannot play zone
  • Lacrosse has specific zones players can enter
  • Soccer has offside
  • Hockey has offside
  • Field hockey literally doesn’t allow double teams

I’m sure plenty of other sports designate where players can be on the field at any given time. It would help because there would be more hits, which imo, is one of many reasons baseball is struggling. Not enough action inning to inning. Too many Ks, too little baserunners, etc.

On a more important not...Yandy Diaz hit his 3rd home run today. Now at .323/1.127. Bauers better get it going!

Any offense rule doesn’t compare. Basketball defense can play whatever they want? And offsides is also an offense penalty. None of those regulate a defense. I get it would make more offense, but screw those shitty hitters that can’t figure it out. If you’re trying to market baseball sure, but real fans think it’s dumb.

Baseball is not nearly the same as the other sports. Offense and defense aren’t played the same way. So that comparison doesn’t work either.

And basketball cannot play zone (at least can’t have a man stand in the lane)...it’s a rule that enhanced the sport greatly. They added the semi circle for charges...it enhanced the game greatly. Soccer added offside, it makes the game insanely more free flowing and offensive minded, which helped it. Lacrosse doesn’t allow attackers to play defense. Keeps the attacking area more spacious. I’m sure there are plenty of others.

The bottom line is every sport OTHER than baseball has rules in place for where players can be at specific time. Whether it is offense or defense. If it will help grow the sports, why would anyone be against it? And maybe the pitchers should learn to throw it where the hitter can’t find those holes?

I’m not a fan at all of “banning shifts”, because the shifts are in response to the current hitting theories that are in vogue. Basically, it’s all about the Home Run.... it’s better to hit 30 home runs and bat .220 than to hit 20 HRs and bat .280. Hence, hitters are all about maximum hip rotation and torque, launch angle, and swinging like this no matter whether there is 2 Strikes or if it’s just important to move the runner. They don’t really care about the number of strikeouts as long as they are getting their dingers. And they really don’t care about bat control and using the whole field... or using their legs to get base hiits... or BUNTING.

Bsnning shifts only encourages that style of hitting, and it won’t do a thing about the strikeouts which is a product of the hitting style rather than the defense.
