Solo: A Star Wars Movie Spoilers.....

I don't know if this thread will get much traction, but since many will be confused with the fact that Darth Maul is shown at the end and the timeline of this movie is AFTER Revenge of the Sith...

First question comes up "wait, Maul died in Phantom Menace when Obi Wan chopped him in half".

Well, if you watched the cartoon series (and I haven't, plan to but have not yet) Clone Wars and now Rebels, you would get a large background on this sudden new twist...

Maul didn't die...story goes he used the dark side of the force to "hold himself" together, eventually got spider like (6 or 8) legs to crawl around, somehow eventually got humanoid like legs, but setup/ran a crime syndicate similar to the one we see in Solo.

So they used his story line in Clone Wars/Rebels to bring him back to the big screen since he was running a crime syndicate.

In the cartoons I guess he had some more run ins with Obi Wan and eventually even the Emperor. Like I said, I haven't watched them just have a little bit of knowledge about Maul's story in them. I tried to watch them but they were boring (I did hear they got better after season 1 Clone Wars which is where I stalled...too much like Phantom Menace crap) so I may go watch them sometime.

I loved the clone wars. I also loved episodes 1-3 but thought they didn't need 3 movies to make their point. In the original movies, I never understood why anyone gave a shit about redeeming Darth Vader. He was the bad guy. And I really didn't care that obi wan died. Episode 1-3 made me appreciate obi wan. The clone wars made me appreciate Anakin.

I plan on picking it up on Netflix again. Maybe by time I finish all 5 seasons of Clone Wars they will have at least 1 season of Rebels (which I hear is even better than Clone Wars) on Netflix.

I assumed when Maul showed up this was before those 3 films.

I enjoyed the movie. Was different going to a SW movie without Jedi, The Force, The rebellion and empire as we know it.

It was entertaining.

Read weeks ago the guy playing solo signed on for three films so he likely will be in other standalones from that time period.

I musta missed it but..when did he get the dice back?

Now to EP 9 next year. Exicted Abrams  back at doing it.

I have doubts Rebels ends on Netflix with Disney starting their own streaming service. It's on watchdisneyxd as of now.  And yes, Rebels is very good.

That would make Han REALLY old.  Older than Anakin.

Nope, Solo is set after Episode 3 but before Rogue One...

She gave them to him near the end, can't remember the exact point but since I saw the dice early in the movie I was looking for it.

Yeah, but it would be easier to explain than Darth Maul still being alive. That’s just stupid.

It was already explained in the two cartoon series that the vast majority of people who have watched the movies haven't watched...

That's the problem, the vast majority of people who have seen all of the Star Wars movies (8 episodes and the two stories) have not watched these two cartoon series (Clone Wars and Rebels), including myself.

Now, I am slightly more interested in Star Wars universe than the average SW movie watcher so I knew Maul was alive just from looking up things on the internet.

Yeah, I get that. My point is, whatever reason they gave/give will be terrible. He was killed. End of argument.

In the movies that everyone saw.  In the movies that no one saw, it is explained that he never died.  I don't get why that is hard to understand (I've never seen the cartoons)

What? I get he has been living on and is a big part of the cartoons and such. Doesn’t make it any more dumb that he was sliced in half as is somehow alive. My point is, no explanation will make that not dumb. He should be dead. If they didn’t want to kill him, have him “die” in a different way in AOTC.

Being cut in half and still living is just idiotic. Why didn’t Obi-Wan go get robot bottom half when Vader sliced him?

No different than when Anakin was not dead and was given cybernetics. He was just as messed up as Darth Maul was when Obi Wan left him.

The key here though is that it is quite obvious Obi Wan is terrible at actually killing anyone, he leaves them for dead and they come back as cyber enhanced monsters (Anakin/Vader and Maul).
