Check engine light came on the other day. Take it into the Monro here in Delaware. I’ve had good success with them in the past, so I tend to trust them.

Turns out it is an O2 sensor and they want damn near $475 to replace it. I’ve seen a few videos on YouTube and it doesn’t seem like it would be the hardest DIY fix. So I will probably take it on myself, with the help of a buddy who is pretty car saavy.

I also started hearing a crazy loud hum with my AC/heat gets turned above 1. So I had them take a look. The blower motor needs replaced. That would be a other $400. That one I know I can do myself, I just have to get the parts.

Anyone ever done O2 sensors before??

Tools and I don't get along, but I did find a link which may help you, with an installation video at the end:

Some 02 sensors are right there and easy and some are very difficult to get to and like you found out, very pricey.

Ive had several replaced over the years but I’ve learned that if it’s not affecting my mpg or making car not run well......leave it be.

Same shit used to fuck with me for DC's emission test. I luckily had a friend who had all the tools necessary to fix cars.  It's easy to fix from what I understand, but you need to be able to have access to fix it.  The $475 is bullshit.  I recall the sensor costing me barely $100 (1999 4Runner) and he replaced it for me.  I bought him a bottle of bourbon.  I haven't failed an emissions test since then.

Yeah, around $100 is what I’m seeing for the sensor. And a little more for the blower motor. Hopefully gonna knock them both out this weekend at a fraction of the cost.

I do have to have the check engine light code ran again. The guy at Monro, a new guy, basically didn’t want to tell me the code that the tester spit out. Most likely because he is expecting me to come back in a week or so.

You can buy cheap engine light sensors on amazon FWIW.

Is there an Auto Zone near you?  I go to them whenever I have the CE light.  They'll plug in a test module for free, tell me what the code is, and then give me a printout with more detail in case I have to take the car into the shop.  Best to go early in the day, though.

Last summer my wife's car threw a code - Auto Zone said "transmission fluid sensor"..  Car was still under the new warranty, turned out to need a whole new transmission, which the dealer took care of.

lol this.  It will most likely take hours, but still worth not paying the amount the shop is asking for.
