Love cicadas. The sound of those fuckers put me to sleep daily in the hot summers growing up.

Not sure I need that many, but their sound has a big time nostalgia effect on me every year. I'd be lost without it lol

I remember going to my brother-in-law's HS graduation in 2004 at Miami University and there being about a trillion of these fuckers flying around.

My coworker a few weeks ago was telling me how they emerge after the right conditions with the weather. I forget what she was saying but if the conditions are sunny and dry then we’ll never see them. The weather has fucking sucked lately and doesn’t seem to be getting better anytime soon.

Watching those things climb out of the ground and finding something to scale (tree, fence, etc) is weird. Like, Ive been below ground for 17 years being a completely different type of bug. Now, here I am in the world and gotta find a place to shed this old skeleton so I can fly!

Yea 2004 was when my daughter graduated High School. They were all over that day at her party. My year and a half old niece was playing with them like they were toys. No fear what so ever.

I went to the Memorial Tournament in 2004, and they were everywhere.

Saw a similar-looking variety in the 2008 swarm at Kings Island, lighter in color with those big bright red eyes.  They were thick in the trees, and would come down and sit on your shoulder and arm if you were stationary very long.  Very friendly.  I got a kick out of them.
