The combination of the snapdragon and the Sense UI makes the Incredible very fast......the EVO has the same thing. As for the rest of the specs...the EVO is definitely the phone to get, at least for now.

Why are they charging everyone an extra $10 a month for this phone when not everyone has 4G?

Because you HAVE to have 4G on this device. There's no way to block 4G on the device without blocking all the other (3G) data with it. So basically you can argue til you're blue in the face that you don't live in a 4G area so you won't be using 4G service, but they can't just flip a switch and turn it off. Then, if they take your word for it and all of a sudden you take a trip to Chicago and hop on 4G, what happens then?

Its complicated, but it makes sense from Sprint's standpoint. They're not making 4G some option you can add if you want to, its included on the device.

Well that sucks, I will still get the phone but not happy I have to pay an extra $10 for it. So the family plan then would be $139.99 with one EVO and one Hero?

They better increase the pace of the 4g roll-outs then if they want this to catch on nationwide. People don't like wasting money on services not available to them.

I'll be able to take advantage of 4G because I'm in Cleveland A LOT.

I'll definitely be picking up the EVO.. Unless something even better comes out by December when my upgrade is available.

As far as I know, thats correct. If I find out any differently, I'll definitely let you know.

As far as markets, there's probably about 10-15 launching this summer (June-July) and another 15-20 launching late summer into fall (Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh will be in this rollout).

Believe me, it has nothing to do with population. NYC and LA don't even have it yet. Neither does Boston, San Francisco, St. Louis, DC.....but guess what? Snohomish, WA has 4G coverage!

I forget where I read it... The $10 charge is & isn't all about the 4G(if true). With all the antenas in the phone(5), this phone is going to smash through and be data intensive(stream video, social networking, etc....) and the cost of building/maintaing the 4G costs as they roll out. Will be nice once they rol 4G in ur area, you can be on phone call and someone ask's you for something, check ur email and send the document or check for a movie listing and tell them while still on the phone!!! Finally won't be able to let at&t say that they our only one's who can do both(while in 4G or wifi).

You can pre-order ur (EVO) at ur local best buy..... http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/05/13/best-buy-taking-pre-orders-for-htc-evo-4g/

Cell phone companies are completely nonsensical it seems.

Data/bandwidth is up there with oil in terms of demand for a resource, yet the distribution sucks.

I would be all about that.

EXCEPT the lady and I are babysitting her nephew tomorrow night. And I'm not sure I can leave her alone with a 7 month old while I go drinking.

But we are going to have to go to GABP soon...VERY soon!

#1, can't give you any pics, sorry. Part of the non-disclosure agreement I signed. I'll be happy to give you my opinion on it though.

#2 Can't speak to the battery life issue, and I won't really be able to test 4G coverage for awhile, so we shall see.

#3 I already know the answer to this, YES you can toggle 4G off. Its an option in your "wireless settings" along with bluetooth, wifi, etc. A simple tap toggles it on and off. There is also a widget that can be put on your front page thats just a small icon that toggles 4G on/off

Just about all phones are coming out with a micro usb charger...the same as the Pre. It's basically a new standard.

However, manufacturers are making chargers with different voltages...and making it so their phones only accept a certain voltage...so that you still have to purchase their micro usb charger instead of ANY micro usb charger.

I have probably 10 different chargers laying around. I hate they are constantly changing these things, but it is a business I guess.

Back from my first day with the EVO.

Impressions:

-WOW! Its HUGE! Like bigger than it looks in pictures, once its finally in your hand its almost intimidating to hold. I could see people with smaller hands perhaps not liking it.

-It is QUICK! And I don't mean data speeds. Being as I'm not in a 4G market, obviously I was getting 3G speeds. The phone is just snappy. Things open quickly, web pages render quickly, the touchscreen is highly responsive, multi-touch (pinch to zoom) is much more responsive than my Pre. There is absolutely no delay between the pinch action and the zoom function, it is instantaneous, unlike the Pre.

-I REALLY like the web browser. This is something I thought I might have a problem with, considering how highly I think of the WebOS browser, but everything is rendered quickly and beautifully. One thing that disappointed me though is that the screen only rotates one way, so you must turn the device counter-clockwise to view a webpage in landscape mode.

-Android 2.1 is better in so many ways. The HTC Sense on 2.1 is especially snappy.

-The phone is THIN. Its amazing that a device so wide and tall can be so thin. I quickly found that when I put it in my pocket, it didn't feel heavy, nor was there a bulge in my pants (at least not near the pocket!)

-The buttons on the bottom front of the phone are touch sensitive, not actual buttons.

-There is really nothing to the phone....I power button and headset jack on top, a volume rocker on one side, and the micro usb and hdmi ports on the bottom. Thats it. (besides the kickstand).

-The phone is completely red inside, including the battery. Not a huge deal, but it looks cool. Like a Ferarri or something.

-The mobile hotspot feature is super easy to use.

-You could spend a day just playing with the animated wallpapers.

-The HDMI port is not a standard HDMI, nor is it a mini HDMI, it is even smaller than that. (micro HDMI?)

-It comes with an 8GB card installed and a charger/usb cable. Thats it.

-The box looks like a tub of butter.

More when I think of things......
