do you think the June 6 release date is going to happen or later/sooner? I'm trying to decide if I want to jump ship or wait for the next Palm(webOS) phone.... I might just test drive the EVO and then decide!!!

June 6th sounds about right to me. I can tell you things are certainly heating up around Sprint, and I couldn't see that happening if it was a July/August release. Seeing as the device was just cleared by the FCC this past week, we should see it now within the month, as long as no obstacles prevent the launch. Just to give you an idea, the Blackberry Bold 9650 cleared the FCC for Sprint the week before and it has a release date of May 16th.

I feel your pain though, I gave up my Pre for a HTC Touch Pro 2 and was back to the Pre within a week. Probably the best piece of software out there. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of Android, as I think its a little.....whats the word......clumsy? With all the software errors I see on a daily basis on the Moment and Hero.......I just don't think Android is as stable as I would want it to be. On the flip side, the Pre and Pixi's hardware is just absolute garbage, but rarely is there a software issue (at least not the constant error messages I see on Android devices). I'll be interested to see the new Palm device (C40?) as well. If it is half the phone that the EVO should be, I'll sell my EVO to the highest bidder and hop on that C40. We shall see, we shall see......

Don't base your feelings of Android on the Hero and the Moment. Those phones are garbage. The i1 might be a better device than those two.

Couldn't agree more.... webOS is freaking solid, just the hardware, even then its not bad!!! I have my Pre overclocked to 800mhz and some many patches(hacks) that palm forgot that my phone is like superman on drugs!!!

To be honest, I'm not sure how much of the problems I see are the phones themselves. People who download an assload of apps seem to be the most prone to problems.

Therein lies the problem: there are developers who are developing apps for android devices, but as of right now, you have devices running 1.5, 1.6, and 2.1 all over the place. Not to mention how many different types of hardware and processors are running the operating system, there are bound to be conflicts. Say what you will about Apple, but theres something to be said for controlling every aspect of a device from hardware, to software, and even 3rd party software (they have a VERY strict review system for submitting apps to the itunes app store).

Which is incredibly flawed and is part of the reason they may about to be in a huge world of legal hurt.

I disagree to an extent. While I agree that the differences in the OS causes some problems in the App Market, I can honestly say that I have not had Force Close issues on my Droid, Backflip, Cliq, or Cliq XT. My Devour has been giving me some issues recently, but I think that can be attributed to a recent software update that has caused all kinds of problems (force close issues, battery draining, etc.). But overall, the rest of the Motorola Android lineup has not had issues with force closes or a bogged down phone caused by an overload of apps.

The Hero and Moment just aren't built that well and have some processor issues. THAT is where the problem is. As long as an Android phone has a good processor, it will be able to handle people downloading crazy soundboards and games and dumb applications that are completely useless but oh-so-fun.

Android does have a problem with the market being segmented by phones that aren't running the latest edition though. They need to figure that out because if you keep having versions that aren't supported by older handsets every six months you're going to fragment the shit out of your app marketplace.

The development pace will slow down with Android. Remember this is a somewhat new mobile OS.

I can verify FM radio is included, but as I said...only with a pair (any pair) of headphones plugged in.

Also can verify that current Everything Data plans will NOT be compatible with the EVO. So everyone buying an EVO will have to change their plan. Mobile hotspot will likely be an additional cost as well, not included in the base plan.

Do there's a 4g surcharge in addition to the standard 3g data plan?

that's BS, some might not upgrade to the EVO because like me, we don't have 4G in Columbus.... Stupid that they are charging extra!!!! I guess I'll have to wait and see price of new plans for the EVO before passing judgemement.

yeah...it isn't right to charge the people in markets that don't offer the benefits of the 4g service.

I can see them doing something like creating an Everything Data Plan priced at 79.99, instead of 69.99 and giving you like an extra 150 minutes or so. That is based on nothing but pure speculation, but I think it would be a good idea.

$79.99
600 Anytime minutes
unlimited any mobile anytime
unlimited messaging
unlimited data
blah blah blah

Maybe slap on an extra $20 for the mobile hotspot feature? (this will HAVE to be an added-on feature)

Other cool things the EVO does (mostly things that Android 2.1 does):
-complete speech to text technology. theres a button on the virtual keyboard that you press, then start talking and it types whatever you say. Works in messaging, email, web browsing, etc.
-battery usage indicator.....tells you which programs, apps, features are using what percentage of your used up battery life
-Qik video streaming. No i didn't mis-type, its called Qik. Stream video LIVE onto the internet. Yes LIVE. So you could be holding your phone up at the ballgame and I could be watching it from the web browser on my computer. Can also upload instantly to Facebook, Youtube, etc.
-Friendstream....provides a consolidated Facebook status/twitter update but ONLY for people you have in your contact list. Pretty cool.

When I think of more, I'll let you know.

Qik is a really cool app. I was using it on the Droid awhile ago. I actually streamed a show for my brother...which was really really cool.
