Simple question, no tricks.

(Note: If you are an Ohio State graduate, we know you aren't actually working for anyone but yourself, but use your knowledge to extrapolate an answer, thanks.)

Voted no, but that's generally because my management either a) have their PhD's and have been in the business for 10+ years or b) have been in the business for 20+ years (with an MBA or equivalent), unlike me, who has been in it for ~2 years. I have a lot to learn from them and take the opportunity to do so frequently.

No, all my former bosses seemed to know what they were talking about even though some were complete assholes.

My boss and I have very different strengths. He is very good with customers and other companies but is horrible with details. He forgets about meetings and interviews, usually fails to make schedules on time (and obviously sucks at it) and has even called payroll in late. I would do a much better job in regards to those things. I am not sure I'd want to deal with companies, do direct bills, etc...so who knows how I'd be overall.

I would not want my bosses job. I'm a code monkey, not a manager. (The less people I have to deal with the happier I am.)

Nope.

I work for three PhD's currently, and in the job i'm starting in a few months, my boss there has a PhD in Information Science.

I just have a lowly Masters degree. :(

No. My bosses are really, really bright guys who know what they're doing. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

No. My boss, soon to be ex-boss, is one of the best people I've ever worked around, in any capacity. Excellent thinker, great communicator, and truly cared about the people he worked with. I don't know if he would function well in a larger setting, our office was really small...but he was perfect for what we were.

I'm a teacher, and will get my Masters in Educational Administration. While my principal can get under your skin, I feel they are tremendous at what they do. I don't feel I could do a better job at all. Perhaps just a different job :)

Yes and no.

My boss lets the 3-4 people above her walk all over her. I wouldn't let it happen. It's not like it would be insubordination or anything, but just simple things like "you can call that client, it's YOUR job not mine."

But she is 100% better with our clients than I am, because I have a short fuse when they ask for certain things and what not.

Shameless bump. I voted yes, but I've always wondered if this was a common phenomenon and according to this highly credible poll, it looks like I'm incorrect.

A good boss listens to his employees suggestions because they are on the front line. Communication (I think) makes a good company a great company. And if you are a good boss, don't be to arrogant to thank your employees and reward them for their service.

Yes, I could do a better job. My bosses are very unorganized. I think the problem is there is 3 of them (that are directly above me) and things get lost in translation between the 3 of them.

I think it's a false sense that a lot of people near the bottom get. Because you do the dirty work and shit like that in a lot of cases, you think the place couldn't run without you and you think you see better ways to do things. But in most cases it's a false notion. In most cases you couldn't do a better job, but there are certainly plenty of exceptions.

I agree, most cases people wouldn't do a better job but those people also know ways that their bosses can improve.

For sure, they're able to see things that the boss doesn't. Doesn't mean they could do his job though.
