I thought we were a lot deeper than that. If this is what we will be doing for the Tourney, may not be going to deep for the conference tourney or March Madness.

They'll be fine, these guys have been doing this for 2 years.

Foul trouble would be the only problem imo, not stamina.

No guys in foul trouble the entire game other than Madsen that fouled out obviously, balanced scoring other than Madsen who added 4, no one turning the ball over, no one that really shot poorly (Turner was 6-17 but obviously you aren't going to take him out), and the buckeyes shot free throws pretty well at 70%.

If Lauderdale was in better shape I might have only played 5 the way OSU played today. You only need to have depth if the starters aren't getting it done. Today they did.

I complimented Ohio State, hell has frozen over.

You thought? You been living in a cave? Since Turner returned, its been this way for well over a month.

It's obviously been that way for awhile. I wish Matta had more of a reliable bench, but he doesn't and doesn't trust anyone on the bench. Will the players wear down? Who knows. But by playing the best 6 and them alone, it gives OSU the best chance to win.

I do wish that Matta would use his timeouts more stragetically. With the media timesouts, and mixing in timeouts, I think you can keep your guys fairly rested, as long as it's not messing up any type of rhythm or momentum that might be taking place.

Lauderdale was in foul trouble, which is why Madsen logged more minutes and fouled out. But then Dallas played great basketball to not pick up fouls after Madsen fouled out.

I think you're absolutely right about the best guys having to play in these types of games, and to be quite honest, our starting 5 give us the best chance. There is a severe dropoff in talent from starters to bench. However, to say you don't buy into fatigue is kind of silly. I don't care whether OSU has 5 Lebron James's out there playing, they can still get tired. 40 minutes a game with 3 days rest in between isn't too much to ask, but if OSU plans on making a run for a Big 10 tourney title, they will have to play 4 games in a week. This will be a true test of stamina leading into the NCAA tourney. I was a college athlete myself and regardless of how hard we trained, physical fatigue was unavoidable. Maybe this team is different though, maybe they have the mental training to overcome the physical fatigue. They are great athletes and I think they will be just fine in the tournament - but fatigue will play a major role in how far they make it. I hope they can just overcome it.

I'm afraid this is going to come back and bite them, too. In the conference tourney, they may have to play 3 days in a row. If they continue to play 6, I guarantee they won't be winning the tournament. I don't know if they can get past the Sweet 16.

Best case scenario is they lose early in the conference tourney. There will be absolutely no advantage in playing in the conference championship when they will probably already have a 3 seed locked up (4 at worst).

Although a #3 seed would play the #2 and a #4 the #1. I just think they will have their seed determined prior to the conference tournament.

Depth won't be an issue in the NCAA's at all IMO. Extended TV timeouts and if they advance past the first two rounds they've got 4-5 days off before they play again.

As far as the conference tourney goes...as a fan it's obviously cool the more we win, but a loss isn't necessarily the worst thing. The more we win in the Big Ten tourney the higher we could potentially get seeded. A one and out or something like that and we rest up.

I agree with the thinking about an early elimination from the Big 10 tourney....I wouldn't mind seeing the Bucks lose early and rest for the week leading up to the tournament. Imagine how quick they would come out in that first game of the NCAA's.

They did it last year, basically doing the samething and making the Big Ten finals. I am not argueing that they will not run out of gas. They could. Its obviously a chance Matta is willing to take. And as mentioned, this year, it might not be a bad thing if OSU goes down early in the Big Ten if they want to make a run in NCAA. I will agree, if they do make a run in Big Ten..then have to turn around and do NCAA..that is where it could catch up with them, no question. If that does happen, I am hopeful they get a Friday game instead of the Thursday. We'll have to wait and see.

Actually, he was hurt. He had an eye injury a few weeks back. I don't know if its still an issue or not though.

You're right, they did make a great run last year to get to the Big 10 finals, but then they turned around and bowed out in the first round of the NCAA's :) If that happens this year, everyone (including myself) will be immensely dissapointed.

I know about tv timeouts and only 2 games a week and all that crap. But if they are going to be tired, the damage will already have been done by them playing 37-40 minutes a game for the past 2 months. You cannot regain fresh legs in a matter of a 2:00 timeout or even a few days. The guys probably don't even notice if their legs are tiring. But if you start seeing their shooting percentages go down in the next week or two, you'll know why. I HOPE I AM WRONG! But, this worries me about their chances in the Big Dance.

You can't argue that the "Fresh 5" didn't lose to teams like Michigan, Minnesota, a bad north carolina team, etc because you put a talent drop off/chemistry killer/flow killer, like our undersized selfish (simmons) no production (hill) out there.

What happens is we have a nice freshly fresh Turner, Buford, Deeb, all out there losing to mediocre teams because of crap on the floor taking up valuable minutes.

I might be misinterpreting your point but I find it ironic that Hill and Simmons combined for 3-4 from the field, 8 points and no turnovers in the UNC game. Not to mention the fact that OSU trailed by 14 at halftime when our starters just came out and were dominated by the bigs of UNC. I don't think this really constitutes "crap on the floor taking up valuable minutes." Additionally, the Michigan loss wasn't a result of stealing minutes from our best players because Turner was hurt this game. Matta was forced to use Hill and Simmons. I really don't think the loss to Minnesota even fits into your claim here because all of our starters played 30-40 minutes except for Lauderdale who only played 22. Turner was getting back into action at this point, recording 19 points in 38 minutes. Again, I wasn't quite sure what you were trying to argue in your post because of your overuse of the word "fresh" and your double negative in the first sentence that forced me to reread the sentence like 5 times :) However, I don't think these 3 losses were a result of Diebler, Turner, Buford, and Lighty being surrounded by crap on the floor.
