From wikipedia:
Comedian Chris Rock's routine "Niggas vs. Black People" distinguishes a nigga, which he defined as a "low-expectation-having motherfucker", from a "black person". In contrast, Tupac Shakur in an interview in the documentary Tupac: Resurrection distinguished between nigger and nigga: "Niggers was the ones on the rope, hanging off the thing; niggas is the ones with gold ropes, hanging out at clubs."

time for your counter point
[/quote]

my counter point is that is a very unevolved point of view...those words spread hate and are unecessary, there are other words to describe all of those types of people you describe. when i hear those words its almost always followed by violence.

Education is a bonus, not only to stop the violence, but also to help your spelling and grammar.

Who said anything about molding moral values? What about Tupac? Many more examples can be provided.

i also think there is a difference between racism and joking around, i have plenty of friends of all races and we constantly make jokes about race....as long as its funny i dont have a problem with it. when it becomes mean i draw the line. i think a good way to tell if you are racist is to think that if your daughter brought home a person of another race would you be upset or not.

what about tupac? are you talking about black people using the n word? also society im not really responding to your posts but rather those who think you can call some people black and some people n words

As far as black people using the word i would rather they didnt use it in front of white people it does set a double standard....but i do it sometimes so its kinda hypocritical....and im half white and half black so i kind of see both sides, but mostly i identify with black because of that is the way i am looked at w long hair and briads alot of people dont realize my mom is white.

Honestly, why is there even a need for this discussion? I was just going to read and not post...but it seems to come up a lot on here and thought it was a valuable question to add to the discussion.

Either you are or you aren't (racist). No need to discuss it on a public forum (IMO) and upset someone.

If I was racist I'd lose half of my friends. Nothing disgusts me more than racism. And my high school was as rural as they get.

as far as discussing this on a message board i would suggest with some of the views here that this is the only place you should discuss it because if you try to explain the difference between a black person and a nword to the peeps i know you are going ot probly get swung on before you get halfway through the rest of the sentence lol

Lol @ people who think white people need a history month. Read a history book some time. White people did a pretty good job at writing it with rose colored lenses.

And as long as people continue to 'joke' about racism..it will still be brought up. Therefor..racism will continue to exist. Even if it's 'just a joke'.

Bullshit..I don't believe in interracial dating/marriage. I would be upset if my son started dating another person of another race. That's my choice. That doesn't make me a racist though.

im curious why would you be upset? if your son was happy and he liked her isnt that all that counts? it would have nothing to do with you you should be happy for him. my point was that some people think their race is better than another race..that would be racist. making jokes with each other i dont have a problem with.

I already said why I'd be upset with it. It's something I don't believe in. It has nothing to do with 'my race being better than that race'.

I'd say you not believing in interracial dating/marriage makes you racist.

I like this. Seriously.

As I would say the same, being born black in America is one of the more fortunate things for me. Much like anything, it has it's drawbacks, but I'm far more fortunate than my Grandparents, and their generation, so I count that as lucky.

There's a way to demonstrate pride, and feel good about who you are/where you come from without being racist.

As for not "believing" in interracial dating, well, it's a choice of course. But I'm always curious to know the reasoning behind why, as I am with anything. People not believing in gay marriage can at least fall back on their religious texts (not knocking that, more speaking to a point)....and I could be unfamiliar with my Bible, but that wouldn't be the case here.

Is it just some kind of sense of "racial purity"?
