This game didn't really mean anything LOL, but it was played with intensity. Smithville didn't shoot well and is missing Frizell and that will add more depth, which I think was a factor tonight. Orrville shot terribly from the line and we played without Wasson most of the game.

I'm sure neither team played like they wanted to. I thought Smithville was a little more athletic than I thought they'd be and Caldwell played a good all around game. Bolyard lead us and had to be high scorer, but he was harassed by Caldwell most of the night. Our bench did a good job of picking up the tempo when they came in. Miller especially shined with his quickness and intensity.

Bolyard: 25 pts, 9 reb, 4 ast, 4 stl, 2 blk
Wasson fouled out with 5:29 in 4th. He played 10:11 tonight, because of foul trouble.

Just a question.

Who the heck cares about Olentangy and Olmstead Falls being in this thing?

Maybe I will get an e-mail on my school account from Mike Plant on this. :-)

And one more thing............we don't need to be firing up 3-bombs early in the game. We need to go to our strength......which is underneath. (or just let Jake drive to the hoop).

Can't wait to talk to Miller about his slam.

I'm sure Zach's happy we won , but has to be a little frustrated with the way the game went. I don't think I've ever seen a call like when he was `under cut on a slam and held on to the rim and the guy who under cut him was called with a foul and then he got called for hanging on the rim. It usually goes one way or the other, a foul on the defense or hanging on the rim, not both.

I'm sure there is a reason for picking these two teams ( Knew Smitty or had some connection to him) but I do agree it would have made me come and watch more games if two local teams were matched up before our game. The problem is that a lot of the local teams are in the same league.

OF beat Liberty Benton last year...they've been in the tourney a few years i think.

It was nice because it let all the Orr/Smi fans not have to fight over seats.

Good game, couldnt believe Jake had 25 pts. Tough game for Zach, and that T was horrible. That one ref was annoying, he was staring down sly after one of his horrible calls....almost baited sly to even look at him. credit to sly for not playing his little game.

How about Sam Miller? Great game, high energy and really played well. That dunk was nice too.

We have athletes to burn, but not many "basketball" players outside of Jake and Zach....need to keep getting better....but I like what I'm seeing so far.

The refs were not good. The flagrant on Orr was ridiculous as well.

From what I saw, Orr fully extended his arms and blatantly pushed the shooter to the ground. But that's just what I saw. Maybe he was trying to break his own fall?

Skills may need some work, but I would take any of those athletes on my team any day. Intensity was amazing when Dillon, Sam and Andre came off the bench. Pirman didn't let Orr intimidate him either.

He pushed Ingram down hard, but he was breaking his fall. The technical on Wasson was crappy too.

Why would I get involved? I have nothing to do with scheduling the QKT thing - Breck does a great job with it. I just cover it.

I agree 100%. The energy those 3 brought off the bench was incredible. Sam looked very polished for being his 2nd game of the season. If Ingram can be a threat to score, or at least drive and dish, he could be very valuable.

About Orr, that was a hard foul, very borderline. They could have ejected him and it wouldn't have surprised me given that crew.

mplant,
welcome. Plant the seed in Breck's ear....Hiland needs to be in that classic. They're one of the few local teams that has never played in it.

Hiland would be a great fit for this, I think them Chippewa, Rittman, and The two Christian schools are the only area schools not to play in this event

Hey I like that ... a reader! And a compliment, a daily-double, always appreciated.

Regarding Hiland, I would imagine they have been asked. They have a tight non-league schedule, and would have to give up a home date, probably, to participate in the Smitty Classic, maybe that's why the Hawks haven't appeared.

All I know for sure is that it is one of my favorite events to cover. lol, like to see a thread on here with Steve Smith stories. Plenty of great ones you can - and can't - tell.

Tomorrow night versus Ashland at home. They've lose to CF, Medina and Lex so far.

A loss puts them at 0-3 in the OCC.

Home or away? Our pocket schedule, program, our school website, and the OCC page list is at Ashland! The day late record is confused , again.

riders1,
this says it's at Orrville.

http://www.orrvilleboosterclub.org/Documents/Schedules/Boys%20Varsity%20Basketball.pdf

@ Ashland on Jan. 30th according to that schedule.

HighSchoolSports.net lists it as @ Ashland.

Seems like the schedule listed on the Booster Club site is incorrect.

That is interesting how this game is being noted as home or away by different sources.

The Ashland High School web site lists this game as being played at our place, also.
