Not to answer for bamagirl, but if he was the love of my life he'd likely know I don't like yellow gold, nor do I ever wear yellow gold.
Ding, ding, ding! There's your winner.

If the person really was the love of your life, he would know that you didn't prefer a specific type of ring.

That'd be like you buying your boyfriend tighty whities, when you know that he only wears boxers. You should know those little things.

Sage, she's not saying that she wouldn't take a yellow gold ring, she's saying that she just can't stand yellow gold.

I'm sure when the time came, a girl who truly loved her man would take a plastic ring, considering it's not about the ring, it's about the relationship you have with that person.

It's ironic that you're talking about her not loving her man, when you're making a ring out to be the only thing that can bring two people together. You should rethink what you're representing, sir.

Not bad looking I guess, not sure I'd buy it for an engagement ring.

I don't think there is any such thing as the "love of your life", just the "love in your life".

Many people (male and female) that I know have had several "loves of their life". Then they move on to the next "love of their life". There is not one specific person meant for one specific person out there. It is all random.

You need love to marry someone, but you do not need to marry someone to be in love.
I disagree with the first part of that.

Tradition, my ass. If a woman NEEDS a damn diamond ring to marry, she is already displaying a high-maintainance trait that isn't worth my time. I didn't buy my wife an engagement ring, nor did she expect one. We have been married over 10 years. Of course, we have wedding rings, which just happened to be the most expensive in the store when we selected them.

I didn't need a "diamond" engagement ring. But I'm very grateful that my fiance was able to get me one. I think it is absolutely beautiful and is perfectly suited for me.

I was very involved in picking out my ring from trying on settings to picking the diamond. While I'm sure I would have loved being surprised, my fiance and I both knew marriage was on the horizon, so it wasn't an issue for me. I'm glad I tried things on because the type of ring I thought I'd like based on pictures looked really bad on me.

Even though I knew I was getting engaged, I was surprised when the proposal happened. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life.

Originally, my fiance wanted an engagement ring where the center stone would be her birthstone and then she wanted to have a smaller stone on each side that would be my birthstone. In the end though we decided that was too much of a hassle and decided to go for the diamond ring.

Personally, I'm not a colored gem kinda gal. I like white gold and diamonds....crisp looking. HOWEVER, I know a couple of people that have a mix of a colored gem (red in these 2 situations) with diamonds and they are beautiful rings. I don't think there is a right or wrong ring for an engagement....whatever the girl likes....or in some cases, whatever is being handed down in the guys family. I've seen some elegant and unique rings that were handed down and very non-traditional. I often times find that rings reflect personalities. It's neat.

Sounds like a nice anniversary gift down the road some day.
