I had a SSG in my unit in OIF V who was a Vietnam Vet. Even carried around his old pictures to show everyone. I know he did atleast 2 deployments to Iraq and wanted to stay in country with the unit that replaced us when we rotated back after 15 months but the BN CDR wouldnt let him, made him go home for a few months before he would let him transfer units. He said he really had nothing for him back home, so he just wanted to be there where atleast he was doing something. probably one of the better Soldiers i had. he could talk you ear off about anything, but always did his job, never cut corners, and never complained.believer wrote:40 years? What exactly do you mean when you say "jump start life"? Are you thinking of it as something to do because you can't really find what you want to do with your life? I've always had an interest in the military. Idk if you recall, but I posted on the Huddle about going through the recruiting process for the Army. My recruiter promised me so many things, but once I actually got to MEPS to swear in and pick a job, things were much different. He said with an 81 I would be looking at a good job, but they wanted me to be "Field Track Mechanic".. I don't think that's bad or anything but not what I expected. He also told me I'd be looking at a good signing bonus, but there was nothing.
