What is Tennessee's link to Calhoun. I know he was a candidate last year when they hired Kiffin. He's done solid at Air Force, but why not somebody like Peterson, or Gary Patterson?

Petersen is quite content at Boise State; he's rejected overtures from pretty much everyone recently.

The Air Force press conference is apparently to announce DeRoyter going to Texas A&M; Calhoun had turned down UT's offer and will stay.

Mike Hamilton played everything very close to the vest last year, and it was only after Kiffin was hired that other candidates were known. In this day and age of media, that was astounding.

Kippy Brown still has his interview tomorrow.

If I have a choice between Brown and Cutcliffe, I'm taking Brown every day of the week. For one thing, he'd keep Jim Chaney around. For another, he'd be better able to bring in quality assistants instead of....I don't know, John Chavis.

If Peyton Manning, or his $$$ have any influence it will be Cutcliffe. Career 53-44 record at dumps like Duke and Ole Miss. 4-1 in Bowl games. Ole Miss was a graveyard before he started coaching there.

Leach interviewed last year.

Let's just say that he wouldn't have gotten a call back under the best of circumstances.

Cutcliffe declined to pull his name from contention last night on the Duke pregame radio show. So that basically sealed his departure.

No idea what Duke will do now. Late in the game, and they don't exactly have tons of suitors. Had to figure he would leave when we signed him.

NNN,

Been reading some rumors about Lovie Smith tonight. Is there any truth at all to that?

Unless something unforseen happens, Cutcliffe is going to get the job.

Right now, Leach is kinda toxic to the big programs. YOu may see a small program pick him up, but none of the big schools will touch him with a 10 foot pole.

To be honest, he'd be a perfect fit for a team like Duke.

Leach wont get a big job for a long, long time.

A smaller football school like a Duke or OU type is where he will have to go.

Tennessee would be settling for David Cutcliffe. Solid coach, but he isn't going to take a program to the elite in the SEC. He can't sell anything to anyone that every other SEC coach outside of Bobby Johnson can. Tennessee needed a home run hire and I think with Cutcliffe they stopped at 2nd with a double. He might go 8-4 or 9-3 consistently, but they could have kept Phil Fulmer and saved millions of dollars to do that.

Mike Leach to Duke would be awesome, assuming that Cutcliffe goes to Tennessee.

If I'd thought about it, I would have created a list of every college head coach, every college coordinator, every NFL coach and coordinator, and every NFL position coach who's coached in college before.

The Lovie Smith thing came up and was shot down in a two-hour span earlier this evening.

I still think that Hamilton is going to pull something out of left field. Some of the stuff that he did last year to cover tracks was terrific; he would have a plane land in one area, then take a rental car to another area somewhat close by to throw the media off. He'd make sure that bogus flight information got out there and pass along concocted information knowing that someone would get it and report it...he's crafty.

I still think Cutcliffe may well be a smokescreen, and I think the flights to Colorado Springs may be a cover for someone else making a short jaunt to....Salt Lake City and Kyle Whittingham. There's also one rumor I've heard that's way the hell out there that involves a former Florida defensive coordinator who may be looking to make a move back to the SEC.
