Were it not for putting an ESPN analysts kid in a damn shed I think he would have stood a chance to at least match the talent vs the rest of the SEC at UT. As it stands now I have to agree though. Both hypothetical situations of course...

This is true, and even at UT, I think he would still recruit Texas well, and have the ability to capitalize in Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee. I'm just saying that the recruiting gap will never open up for him in the SEC like it has in the Big 12, where he can be comfortably in that 2nd tier and seriously compete with the big boys every few years. Each and every year he will be facing 3 of the top 5-10 programs in the country and have 3-5 other schools right on his heels if not out-recruiting him.

He would do well, just not national title well. The Vols, IMO, need to just go in a different direction.

recruiting tennessee geographically sucks.

its home state sucks, talent-wise

the elite tennessee teams that fulmer built in the late 90s/early00s were filled with GA and Cali guys

essentially, caroll to USC and richt to UGA KILLED UTenns recruiting

that's why fulmer had an eroding talent base and had to rely more on JUCOs and also why getting a guy like kiffin and his recruiting staff was such a big deal

taking the tennessee job is far less appealing today then it was 10-15 years go.

I think he is far more interested in the Tennessee administration groveling at his feet more than he is interested in the job. I do think there is a level of interest in the job there from Fulmer, but that interest is fighting with his desire to tell Mike Hamilton and the rest of the crew to go fuck themselves.

The word is that muschamp had the night to think it over. I think he ends up taking the job, effective today. But just a guess.

I think this is what ends up happening. Funny thing is I think that UT gets a better coach. Yes they may take another year back again but wind up better in the long run.
