They cannot prevent you from using the word huddle. It's called competition folks. It would be like McDonald's suing Wendy's for using the word hamburgers.
And I highly doubt you can copyright a message board setup.
Ridiculous.

You're just one of the MANY posters who have been banned for no reason. The only thing we can think of is they don't like seeing their posters over here as well.se-alum wrote:Just got this, no idea why. They didn't even give a reason. You have been banned for the following reason:

Just went on jjhuddle to see what was happening. I'm banned. The reason? "No reason specified." I didn't do anything, either. Haha

JJhuddle HAS NO MONEY. They needed OUR money. Now you all think they have the money to launch a lawsuit on something so arbitrary and tedious? Please.

Those of you who paid the "ONE-TIME" fee, should follow the above link, and complete the process.

Lawyers run $150/hr minimum.
They need about 12 new members/hr to hire a lawyer to do this.
Doubtful.

On the forums the only thing that I see pertaining to a copyright is held by Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. and the only thing that pertains to is what they used to build the board http://www.vbulletin.com/about.php
However JJhuddle itself appears to be copyrighted. But that is not listed on the Forums, freehuddle is defiantly not a copy of the JJhuddle main page.
here is some cool information on copyrights:

mentioning JJ here could be covered under the fair use clause:

just a bunch of fluff from Natali....Fair use or fair practice is utilization of a portion of a copyrighted work "as is" for purposes of parody, news reporting, research and education about such copyrighted work

That's not going to work. You still have access (if you didn't get banned for rules violation) to the message boards. It is perfectly legal for them to add "premium forums" to their site and charge. It's a "new item." They know what they're doing.

justin, I hope you responded to Matt's message with a "Go fuck yourself" comment.
He's a moron for thinking that his lawyers would even waste their time with his complaint.

THEY HAVE NO CASE. Tell them to bring it on. A lawsuit will only speed their imminent bankruptcy

It will annoy the hell out of them.
Yea, it's obvious they know what they're doing!
BTW, the BBB takes complaints on how businesses are ran, not whether or not what they are doing is legal. You can do something legally, but if it's unethical, they will take the complaint into consideration.

I'm in law school right now, and I'm currently in an intellectual property class. I don't believe domain names can be copyrighted. However, they are able to bring trademark claims for domain names. But, this site is not making any money. It is a free site, so there is income, and thus, technically, we are not stealing any of their income. I could possibly see a trademark dilution claim being brought. But, most likely they will spend a ton of money to get an injunction (with $, most likely they don't have). Plus they would have a weak case with all of the other sites using Huddle.
Again, I'm just a student, and I wrote this in a hurry trying to get to class, so take it for what it's worth. . . but they are full of shit if they think they can find a lawyer willing to take a case for a website that is about to go under so they can get an injunction on another website that has no money. . .

Matt, nobody wanted the damn premium articles or information that your staff created.
It was all forum based and you know it. Why offer things that 75%+ do not want anyway?
