I'd be very cautious on trading the Pats for JG, obviously Browns don't have the talent (esp WR) that the Pats have, he won't look the same. If the Pats trade with you, you've been had. It's a coin flip whether he would be good outside of NE. Don't overpay for that coin flip.

Just to be clear, the Ravens fired him. Not the Browns. Thanks.

This. Very idiotic when people tell me "lol browns fired bill."Commander of Awesome;1837534 wrote:Just to be clear, the Ravens fired him. Not the Browns. Thanks.

Wouldn't QQ about grabbing him in the 3rd round.

Sounded like it was a mutual parting. More Cap room to not use!

I actually think they will hit FA hard this year. I wouldn't mind throwing some good money at berry and zeiter.iclfan2;1838874 wrote:Sounded like it was a mutual parting. More Cap room to not use!

I always think the Browns will hit FA hard. And they almost never do. And when they do hit it hard, it usually ends up a failure. I'll pass on FA.Crimson streak;1838936 wrote:I actually think they will hit FA hard this year. I wouldn't mind throwing some good money at berry and zeiter.

It's been stated numerous times on this forum, but FA is fool's gold.

It really depends on who you are targeting and how long they have been in the league.like_that;1838938 wrote:It's been stated numerous times on this forum, but FA is fool's gold.
The big names seem to flop a ton. But I think you can build very solid depth and get starters from FA when you target guys coming off their first contract who haven't yet hit their prime.
Its the guys who have hit their prime, made a name, get paid, and then suck.

Teams like the Raiders, Falcons and others made significant strides using FA. Doesn't mean it's the only way, and if you're giving massive contracts and looking for stars, you're bound to fail.
At the same time, as a Bengals fan, I've bee frustrated at their lack of attention to free agents, especially considering most of the time they have had the core players already in place.

I don't have access to Insider anymore, but this article by Polian a couple years ago share your thoughts and my thoughts on free agency. It's a pretty good breakdown. If anyone has insider can they post the article?Laley23;1838946 wrote:It really depends on who you are targeting and how long they have been in the league.

I'm alright with finding OL/DB help in FA. I feel like Cleveland has to overpay by a decent amount for guys who wouldn't typically want to come to CLE, so I'm all the more for paying the up and comer vs. big name.

I'm actually completely fine with our oline. We need to send Erving's ass to the bench, start Greco at Center with Reiter backing him up. Move Paztor to RG (tho I wish we kept Cooper, still don't fucking understand that move AT ALL. He was a building block, young and beasting) and start the better of Coleman or Drango at RT. That's a top 10 oline right there.Benny The Jet;1838980 wrote:I'm alright with finding OL/DB help in FA. I agree with this. Seems like teams that try to make that HUGE splash in FA wind up never developing chemistry and/or the guy they gave huge $$$ to starts slacking off and not nearly playing up to expectations (The Albert Haynesworth Rule). But using FA to fill holes in the supporting cast can be very effective, as far as gaining quality depth. Better to have a homegrown stud than rolling the dice that an established stud will still care after breaking the bank. Better to have reasonably established players filling roles than rolling the dice that your raw athlete mid-round pick is going to magically "get it" this year or next.Laley23;1838946 wrote:It really depends on who you are targeting and how long they have been in the league.

When healthy, I'd agree for the most part. I'd like some better depth though, so Erving never has to see the field.Commander of Awesome;1838982 wrote:I'm actually completely fine with our oline. Yeah hard to gauge how much of a blip last yr was versus a trend. Sadly I don't think we can count on BitPWNio for a full season.Benny The Jet;1838992 wrote:When healthy, I'd agree for the most part. I'd like some better depth though, so Erving never has to see the field.

Browns and punter Britton Colquitt agree to terms on 4-year deal, per source.
