I agree that Camry and Accord are great cars, but I question whether a sedan is going to do it for you. You're talking a baby and the necessary car seat and his stuff....plus a dog to travel long distances? It'll need to be a little dog. What if you have another baby? I'd recommend having at least one of the family cars be a (minimum) mid size SUV or better still a full size or a mini-van(ugh). Toyota and Honda make both, and they are high quality like their sedans. You might also look at Subaru....their AWD is solid in the snow and safety ratings are top notch.

We do have a little dog. He barely qualifies as a dog (only 11.5 lbs). My wife's car is a Kia Sportage. So we have that mid-size SUV in the family, which is why I was hoping I'd be able to get away with a sedan.

I was intrigued by the thread title so I clicked. Glad I did! With 309K on my 1999 Accord, I can't imagine I'll be good to go for another two years. Or 2 months for that matter! I'm working on 3 cylinders instead of four due to oil seepage making the fourth spark plug inoperable.

I've been considering a newer Civic (2013-2015) due to the fact that in 5 years whatever I get will be my son's first car. I'm not trying to hand over a brand new vehicle to him, but I'd also like something reliable. Civic Hybrid wouldn't be the worst choice given the nearly-50 highway MPG it offers.

But having been in a newer Accord (I was actually in hasbeen's once), those things are sweet!

If you want cheap, my buddy just got a 4 door Kia Forte out the door for 14k. Same size as a civic. FYI, I have an accord and it has been reliable. If I still lived in Ohio I would strongly consider a Subaru or other awd vehicle.
