I'll probably throw $10 at it. Likely wont ever have the chance at winning 675 million again.SportsAndLady;1773802 wrote:I bought a ticket last night. Fuck it why not?

I bought a ticket for the first time yesterday and the quick pick gave me all 5 numbers over 60. I understand that combo has as good a chance of winning as any, but still.

Didn't they make the jackpot odds significantly worse a month or 2 ago? I hope it rolls over again and hits a billion.

LOL, he's right as you usually see some toothless hilljack winning it. With that being said, I'll probably waste $10.like_that;1773799 wrote:Inb4 sleeper tells you how the lottery is a waste of money and for poor people.
As far as office pools go, you pretty much have to throw some money in because you don't want to be the one left out when everyone comes in and quits.

I think that's wrong, other calculators are showing 280. Regardless, that's fuck you money.

418 is the before taxes I believe. I'll probably put down $10 or $20 on it.

The expected value is close to the value of the ticket itself. It's a break even game at that amount or higher.
I have better uses for my money but I understand if poor/stupid people do not.

I'll buy. I have no issues in spending $10 on big money tickets like this a couple times a year.

I'm usually right. The reality is, when you derive conclusions based on logic and reason, the result ends up in your favor.BR1986FB;1773828 wrote:LOL, he's right as you usually see some toothless hilljack winning it. With that being said, I'll probably waste $10.

Tell me more about your two masters degrees. $10 says neither were in statistics or reality.OSH;1773840 wrote:I'll buy. I have no issues in spending $10 on big money tickets like this a couple times a year.

100% chance of losing if you do not play. While the odds may be very slim that you will win, they will never be 0%.SportsAndLady;1773802 wrote:I bought a ticket last night. Fuck it why not?

Opportunity cost pretty much negates this entire logic.ernest_t_bass;1773844 wrote:100% chance of losing if you do not play. While the odds may be very slim that you will win, they will never be 100%.
Sure, buying 1 ticket increases your odds SIGNIFICANTLY from 0% to some minuscule number above 0% but over time you will come out vastly ahead by not playing.

I was thinking about trying, but, man, now I'm scared that the loss of a couple dollars will magically make me less intelligent or, even worse, A POOR PERSON!!!!

$2 at 5% return(conservative), 40 years from now is worth ~$14. Now consider the cost it takes to get to the convenience store and the # of times you actually play the lottery and you can easily see why poor/stupid people play the lottery.Automatik;1773848 wrote:$2 won't break me, so I'm good!

Anyway, enough logic and reason for this thread. I've given it more than it deserves.

All very true for playing the lottery on a regular basis if you are of lower income, but the odds of a person winning a lottery over $200 million are probably the same as a person creating the wealth of of nothing like Gates, the original Walton, or Zuckerberg. I'm on a minor league message board, I'll lay down a few dollars to take the lightning strike change of owning what ever I want.sleeper;1773847 wrote:Opportunity cost pretty much negates this entire logic.
