Sleeper's logic is spot-on.

However, what you're really spending your $2 on is the Dopamine high and temporary rush believing you have more of a chance than you do.

It's similar to play a slot machine or betting a single number in Roulette. It's a terrible use of your money from an economic value standpoint, but the experience has some value.

It's definitely valid for constant lottery players/gamblers. But for the occasional player, fuck it.

There's several ways I could shore up my spending before I address my quarterly Powerball ticket....my coffee addiction being one.

Yep. Me too. Sit back and dream is fun.

I don't mess around with lottery when it's like $20 million jackpot or anything. I don't go out to the movies, out to eat (much), or casinos (definitely don't have your luck/ability). So, this is some junk purchases I'll make a couple times a year.

It's also pretty crazy to watch those shows on what winning the lottery did to people -- positively and those that blew everything. Crazy.

Sleeper needs to save all that money to pay for girls to get laid. His words, not mine [emoji23].

Dumb comment. I doubt there are more millennials than other age groups buying.

The only time I ever bought a lottery ticket was when I worked places where everyone went in. I didn't want to do it, but it was more insurance against everyone else there winning and quitting while I still have to work.

Sleeper is treating the decision to buy a lottery ticket as if it were an investment when as you point out it is a consumption expenditure. Sleeper buys Bud Light bottles and fantasizes about beating the guts of d.c. bar chicks. Other people buy a lottery ticket and fantasize about buying stupid shit.

Nothing wrong with playing a few bucks for the entertainment value.

I'll probably buy one ticket. Seems like all the winners of the past randomly bought one. Any more than that and I'll have to sell the house, look for part-time work, make infant daughter get a job, etc.

My friend - who is rich but not Powerball rich - always said it's worth the money for the 5-10 minutes spent dreaming about what you will buy if you win.

It's for entertainment purposes only. What's a couple of dollars on lotto tickets to get that rush of the VERY remote possibility of winning? It's not different than spending a couple dollars and enjoying a beer. Different rushes for different folks.

Can't believe anyone really cares about what sleeper thinks on this.

I might do $5-$10 but probably won't

I always say I'm going to get a few tickets when the jackpot gets this high. Then I forget. We'll see if I actually buy a ticket or two by Saturday.

Never bought a lottery ticket. Doubt I ever will. Have played the slots a couple of times for fun with a fixed amount of cash. There is a difference between habitual players and those tossing in a few buck when there is on occasion a huge jackpot.

I don't smoke, drink very little, gamble once or twice a year never over 500.00 ... spend with in reason

5 ticket 2.00 plus 1.00 for special added number ... 15.00
I lost that much in golf balls playing with BRF and I would do that again...

...belly, I figure if I'd hit the lotto, I'd buy a very nice golf course that would include a bed/breakfast and just enjoy working and playing at it. You and BRF would be welcome to play (at a reduced rate) :)

I'm stupid and poor so I'll buy a ticket or 2. Will be the second time ever playing the lottery. I'll take the money out of my beer fund.

Wait, no, not the beer fund. Daughters diaper fund. Each diaper last for 12 hours right?
