There are a lot of racist people out there but that doesn't mean they're going to murder innocent black people.

The mentally ill ones are the ones that do.
And there are a lot of mentally ill people out there who aren't going to murder innocent black people.

I am not saying Dylann Roof was or was not mentally ill. I have no idea. But he is a hateful racist. That much is clear.

I was just asking if he was diagnosed to relate it to Belly's argument.

Not diagnosed with a mental illness? Ok, now what?

1) Each state, in 1860, has a right to decide if they want slavery

2) Northern states get rid of slavery and craft their own rules prohibiting it

3) Southern states want to maintain slavery and secede in part because the Northern states, per their own state rights, won't allow slaves

4) Southern states cite states' rights as the main reason for secession.

If you can't see the reasoning problem with declaring the basis of secession the protection of states' rights while refusing to acknowledge the rights of other states to prohibit slavery, then your post makes sense.
Where did I refuse to acknowledge the rights of other states to prohibit slavery?

Between this and the circumstantial evidence argument, just how dense are you when it comes to logic and reasoning? Obviously a ton.

You cited to, and embraced as your own opinion, an article saying "states' rights" was the reason for the secession. I then posted an article showing the logical flaw in that argument.

Then you proceeded to quote my post and say it was just opinion. So then I show you the logical fallacy incorporated into your citation. And you still can't see the fallacy in the argument

Sigh.

A hateful racist with a severe mental problem.

You stated that perhaps he isn't a nut job and just a racist. I can't see how someone could walk into a fucking church of all places and just start unloading rounds into innocent people without having some sort of mental illness. I don't care how racist you are.

That doesn't make it factual. Not every person who murders someone innocent is automatically mentally ill.

He's so oblivious, it's unreal.

I didn't grow up in the south, yet I still know way too many people who are openly racist. But yeah, that confederate flag waving from the back of their jacked up, redneck truck represents the "pride of the south"...in Ohio.

Fuck off Belly.

Yeah Belly you're dead wrong on this one. I love how the "closet racists" love to say, "but....but...but...its not a Conderate Flag, its a battlefield flag, it represents our "heritage"..." . Yes it does...your heritage of a wanna be nation that owned slaves and got your asses kicked.

The Union Jack has just as much historical significance to US history as the Confederate flag does - yet you don't see a whole bunch of people hanging it off of their front porch.

Slavery is the apex of the whole confederate movement. It absolutely cannot be disguised as anything else. Whether you try using states rights, buying/selling merchandise or whatever, it's all under the umbrella of slavery. Let's not pretend otherwise.

There is nothing relevant in today's world about the Confederate flag besides the memory of what was and what never should have been.

So, go ahead and flameout on me. It's the truth.

Fun with flag.. Great test to see what our citizen think of when a flash card of flags are shown, first thoughts and the confederate flag is shown.... Supremacy, slavery, racism.....
Bama football :) cray fish picnic :) , 4x4 mudding :)....southern hospitality, civil war...

those of us that are Irish should be more angry than the Blacks...over the confederate flag.... More Irish died as slaves, separated from their families as slaves than Blacks...... But let not be truthful of the facts...

mental illness is the problem ...... Blame guns, blame flags, blame blame blame .... Until answers are given of a failure in the system of social serves, system of school social programs and medical profession are restructured to help, prevent and profile the public will alway be at risk. So let keep calling names, bashing and assuming but never providing a solution just a quick meaningless fix.....

I couldn't care less. Whether it's the N word or a confederate flag or whatever else gets your panties in a bunch...it's just an object or a word. Getting rid of the confederate flag doesn't erase the history and it's not going to make people more or less racist.

You don't get it. When the media decides to create a sheep mob, it GETS a sheep mob. Period.

The last I looked, Japan still has the same flag as they did in WWII, and they lost the war. …kind of gives the nut cases comparing the Nazi flag to the Stars and Bars something to ponder. hmmmm…. then again the PC police may decide the Japanese flag will be next to be forced down to only be seen in the museums.

I've lived north of the Mason-Dixon line all of my life but I've gleaned a fair amount of appreciation of the history of the South in my years. I have no problem seeing the Confederate flag on display. For me in today's world, it reminds me of the spunky rebellious side of being an American.

If you have ever visited the South you will have probably noticed that many who live there embrace the Confederate flag with pride. My observation is that they do this more as a way of honoring their ancestors than to continue a fight. They understand they lost the fight.

This is a state's issue and a freedom of speech issue. It doesn't matter to me if they decide to display the flag or not… its their choice not mine. If you don't live there, I'd venture to say its not your choice either.

United States was formed by 13 British colonies who when they declared their independence from Britain formed the United States. Within a very short time they agreed in the Articles of Confederation to a “permanent union.” The Constitution has no Articles or Amendments permitting secession from the nation. In 1869 the Supreme Court ruled secession unconstitutional in the Texas v White decision ruling that the United States is “an indestructible union.” <o:p></o>
Why did the Southern states secede? At the time of each state secession they issued manifestos explaining why they left the Union. South Carolina lead the way by explaining they were going because of the threat to slavery. Other states followed suit in their explanations. What was the nature of the Confederacy? But Alexander Stephenson, Vice President of the Confederacy, was more accurate saying, “our new government is founded upon the opposite (to all men are created equal). Its foundations are laid, it cornerstone rests upon the great truth that the Negro is not equal to the white man, that slavery is his natural and normal condition.” Jefferson Davis gave the true reason for the formation of the Confederacy. “We left the Union to save ourselves from a revolution (the election of Lincoln) that threatened to make the property of our slaves insecure as to be comparatively worthless.”

Being Irish I should hate the confederate flag more than anyone .. Read the book White Cargo
Slavery in America and around the world where Irish but don't tell the Blacks that more Irish slaves where killed an the treatment was brutal, Irish families, women and children sold at a lower price than Blacks.
Some of you should do more research on slavery in the south...
