Flying. Too many crazy drivers who aren't paying attention on the road.

Or you have a drunk like this driving for 15+ miles in the wrong direction last night in Columbus. Coming back from a church retreat I bet they thought they were safe driving there.

Apparently a swiss soccer team at the last moment changed their flights or they woulda been on the flight.

Too bad. The only thing more disappointing would have been if the German Bar Association had been scheduled to be on the flight and canceled.

Whew! You had me worried for a bit. I figured it was a bit more than the original figure over the past 65 years, but I didn't realize it was as high as it was - the 1977 Tenerife crash had 500 deaths alone, and the years 1972 and 1985 each had 2500 deaths, see third chart down:

You're not making fun of soccer you're wishing a bunch of children were on a plane that crashed.

But I don't even know why I'm responding to you, you'll be banned from here in due time.

Well, the latest report is not too encouraging: one of the pilots locked out of the cockpit.

I hate to say that I said this smelled fishy, but there is no way the plane descended from 38k ft over 8 minutes without a distress call unless something really crazy was going on.

God bless the deceased and their families.

That doesn't sound good. I remembered during the Flight 370 incident they said a depressurization event COULD render pilots unconscious and that the plane would automatically descend to below 10k feet for breathable air.

WTF is wrong with these people? If you want to kill yourself, do it at home and don't take others with you.

How did they know it was a pilot? What if it was a stewardess or something trying to figure out why the plane was flying upside down or some shit?

Either way, I found this in an article I just read:
If a member of the flight crew doesn't open the locked cockpit door from the inside, according to a manual for the Airbus A320 available online, the door can also be unlocked by the cabin crew outside the cockpit by entering a two- to seven-digit code, pre-programmed by the airline, on a keypad.

I was wondering if they had a code to get in. Makes sense that they would.

If the cabin depressurized, at that altitude you may have only 30 seconds of useful consciousness. I could see how punching in a code might be difficult. But the crew has air tanks and larger reserves, so that doesn't explain why he didn't open the door.

Also read about the code to get in but did read that the person inside the cabin has the ability to deny code access.

So maybe that's what happened and the pilot inside the cabin was trying to take the plane down/suicidal?

Are you dumb? You know when you're driving through Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia..., and there are those huge walls of rock on either side of the road? Yeah, those are mountains. If you turn wrong, you most certainly can drive your car into the side of a mountain.
