False! The Make a Wish story is a load of garbage too. John Steigerwald posted that non-story on his blog, the same Steigerwald who has an axe to grind with Ben and is reduced to writing blogs for attention.

That was another topic of discussion today on the radio. Could easily see the Steelers taking someone like Gibson and grooming him for that position.

I don't know.

Harrison and Woodley are two of their best players.

They love outside linebackers but there were some other areas that made a lot more sense.

looking at the film and some of the scouting reports, there is no secret why the Steelers liked Worilds

looks like another tough outside linebacker, a lot of effort

just not sure about that position here

yeah they must not like him that much

if they passed him up at that spot they had to have thought about him and decided he wasn't right

I don't understand Steelers, Worilds??

The steelers could have down way better, like someone else said, they could taken him in the 3 or 4th probably.

Maybe since he is not a huge name the steelers can get away with not paying him alot of money!!! nothing changes in Pittsburgh, I dont know why I even get excited to watch the draft every year. A second round pick ive never heard of, and I live college football!!

Steelers take Emmanuel Sanders, WR, SMU

in the third round

I like that pick better than the second rounder

fast, quick receiver that can jump, good vertical...not a bad replacement after losing Holmes

now if they had just gone CB in that second round they'd be looking at lot better

I don't know much about Sanders. I was pushing for Shipley, but I just talked to a friend who is a draft freak and so called "Steeler insider." He said I should be happy with the pick....so we'll see.

Well, the Steelers specifically targeted this guy -- Emmanuel Sanders.

They brought in Golden Tate and Sanders for visits but obviously they liked Sanders more.

They even reached a little bit in the 3rd to get him which shows they wanted to make sure they got him and not another receiver.

Time will tell whether they were correct in their evaluation, but they did land Mike Wallace last year in the 3rd round.

Sanders even at 5'11 can go up and make some tough catches and he has good speed working in the slot and can also return some kicks.

2-Jason Worilds, OLB, Virginia Tech = D
3-Emmanuel Sanders, WR, SMU = C

I'm listening to 93.7 the fan and every caller thus far has been livid with these 2nd and 3rd round picks. The majority are questioning why they didn't take Golden Tate with their second pick when a guy like Worilds would be available in the third round. I tend to agree, Tate's a better receiver than Sanders and even if Worilds was gone when their third round selection came, there's other guys out there that could be just as good in terms of value.

For what is worth, one of the guys on NFL network thought that Worilds is the perfect fit in Pittsburgh and a great pick.

^^^^Probably so, but the consensus out here is he would have been available with their 3rd round pick and even if they felt threatened that another team was going to take him, they have plenty of picks to give for a move up and take him.

I may be biased towards Tate but IMO and that of many other Steeler fans in the city, selecting Tate and waiting on Worilds was the logical choice.

I'm not one to question the Steelers front office and their moves, more times than not they are spot on but this just seems weird to me, especially after they had Tate in for a visit.

I think Tate would've been a great Steelers player for a long time. That's who I would've taken in that second round.

And I agree that Worilds was a reach. They could've traded down, gathered another pick and still taken him later on.

I don't mind the player himself. Worilds looks like a nice outside linebacker prospect but they currently have two Pro Bowl outside linebackers so Worilds will not see significant time for probably two years other than special teams and some situational pass rushing. They had more pressing needs.

Sanders has a chance to be a weapon if you look at the film but he was also a reach in the third round.

Clumsy draft I'd say. Not good strategy. And this coming after the lackluster Holmes trade.

I look at this as a bit harsh.

1. Pouncey: a player who seems projected to be a can't miss high-level player, but isn't at a "sexy" position that's considered to be picked as early as he was. A-

2. Worilds: good player and all, but where's he going to fit in the near future with Harrison and Woodley at OLB? Then again, Harrison isn't young, as he was a late bloomer. Maybe they're worried that his performance will decline in the near future. C

3. Sanders: if they liked him enough to reach a bit for him, I'm cool with that. I look at WR as possibly the position where the likelihood of a high-round pick bombing and a low-round pick amazing is the closest. It all comes down to a combination of mental fortitude and fitting into the team's system. I'm giving this a "B" now, operating under the assumption this is a dude who will fit into their system.
