We probably should just get to the reality of the insanity: politics are a sticky and divisive subject to discuss; a lot of people, both right and left, are overbearing and obnoxious with their opinions; those sorts of people tend to get really prickly when their ilk on the other side start blaring their opinions, especially when they have a much larger audience, since the whole thing is really not much more than a dick-measuring contest and they don't like "coming up short".

And so, this.

The Oscars are a setup each year. This goes back decades. The TV shows spend the days before speculating on who will say what. So the actors are all set up to say whatever comes to their mind. People with sense don't care what they say. Stupid people may care, but they can't affect change, so there's nothing to worry about.
