What you dont know is the Steelers were going to cut him outright. So getting a 5th rd pick is better than nothing.jmog wrote: No offense to the Stiller fans, but you guys really got raped with the Holmes trade, and it wasn't Big Ben doing the raping either.
I know Holmes is having off the field issues, but you traded away your #1 WR, a guy that was the 7th WR yards wise last year, for a 5th round pick.
Who, on the Steeler's roster is going to replace over 1200 yards receiving, and please don't say an aging Ward.

Saw a mock where the Steelers took a CB, Ghee, and the Patriots took Tate with the next pick.

The Steelers clearly want Ghee next but I don't know if he'll fall to No. 52.
The CBs were going off the board quickly at the end of the first round.
I want Tate personally but not if they have to give up their third round pick.

They like Emmanuel Sanders more than Tate.
I don't but we'll see.

Is it just me or does it seem like the Patriots have half of the picks in the 2nd round?

There's rumors the Browns are looking to trade up to the top of Rnd 2 to select either Clausen or McCoy. I don't like theis idea one bit. If neither are there for our regular pick, fuck it. Go QB on Saturday. No way are these 2 worth extra picks to obtain. Bad move by Holmgren/Heckert if they do so. Stand pat and grab a WR that will make some impact on the offensive side of the ball.

The St. Louis Rams can spend today negotiating with potential 33rd overall picks, and they can also spend today entertaining offers from other teams for the first pick in the second round of the draft.
If they decide to trade the pick, two of the teams that are interested are the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Bills and Browns have already contacted the Rams about acquiring the 33rd overall pick. Both teams want to draft a quarterback, either Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame or Colt McCoy of Texas.
Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, however, reports that the Bills are not inclined to trade up. The thinking in Buffalo may be that either Clausen or McCoy could fall to them at pick No. 41, or that there's a quarterback they could take in the third round or later who can be developed into a starter.
Ultimately, even if the Bills aren't inclined to trade up, the Rams are going to have some very good offers from teams that are -- probably offers good enough that when the 33rd pick is announced, it won't belong to the Rams.

Who said anything about the Browns having a vaunted defense?Non wrote: They're not going to get Tate. Colbert said the Steelers won't trade up in Round 2.
But anyway, the Steelers will be fine offensively. They're more about spreading it around and being balanced than one player putting up the stats.
They did go for 523 yards -- Ben 417 passing yards -- in the first meeting against the vaunted Browns defense.

Handicapping the field for Clausen
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 23, 2010 12:53 PM ET
We don't expect the Jimmy Clausen drama to last long on day two of the draft. Here's our list of favorites to wind up with the Notre Dame product.
1. Bills: There are conflicting reports about their eagerness to trade up. No surprise. But they want to draft a quarterback and multiple reports say they were in on Tim Tebow. It makes a lot of sense to go after Clausen.
2. Seahawks: Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that Seattle would have definitely taken Clausen at 14 if Earl Thomas didn't slip. If that's true, they are great candidates to move up to take Clausen now. They have to move up a long way, though, after sliding down to pick No. 60 in the Charlie Whitehurst trade.
3. Raiders: We liked the Rolondo McClain pick. It made sense and filled a need. Taking Clausen would make a lot of sense too. Too much sense to happen?
4. 49ers: The strong pre-draft links to Clausen proved false. They might have to move a long way up to get Clausen from their current No. 47 perch, but he fits on their roster.
5. Browns: Mr. Michael Smith of ESPN has been on target with all things Browns of late -- he stuck with Joe Haden as Cleveland's pick. He thinks the Browns will look to fill bigger needs than quarterback and we agree.
6. Vikings: Trading down out of the first round indicates Clausen isn't a priority. We think they are a good match, though.
7. Panthers: A couple factors are in the way here. They don't have a lot of ammo to trade, with and they don't have a coach that is likely to be thinking long-term.
8. Chiefs: We're not buying it. Perhaps they floated love for Clausen as a favor to Charlie Weis.

Holmgren told me yesterday Browns' needs/where they pick = unlikely to take a QB early. I'm expecting S and probably a RB today.

Next year's draft class will be loaded with better QBs, I say ride out Delhomme a year til we draft our "QB of the future" next year.
I'd rather them address other areas besides RB, but I won't complain..

I said earlier it was a "safe and solid" pick but I also think it was a reach. I think they lost out on Berry, weren't in the "sweet spot" to trade down and took the safe player. You can never have enough GOOD corners but I'd seen some mocks where he fell to you guys at 18.

I def think that Haden was a reach, but that doesn't mean that they didn't try to trade back and get him later. Everyone always assumes that anyone will trade up....there may have been no takers..who knows.

There were no takers. From what I heard, they had no offers. Wrong place, wrong time. They pick at 5, they have Berry. They pick at 10, they can trade down if they want to.wes_mantooth wrote: I def think that Haden was a reach, but that doesn't mean that they didn't try to trade back and get him later. Doesn't mean that Haden isn't or won't be a good player. I'm just all about value and he could have been had later. Thank your lucky stars that they didn't REALLY panic and sell the farm for Bradford.
