No not really that tough just wouldn't give up on something I've worked my whole life for because I was afraid it would hurt me

Don't worry, you won't get the chance to make that decision.

It isnt a question of if. Its a question of how bad.Classyposter58;1713693 wrote:No not really that tough just wouldn't give up on something I've worked my whole life for because I was afraid it would hurt me

His decision took more courage than continuing to play football would have. The kid put up numbers that would most likely put him in elite company as an NFL LB over a full season, and would've led to a very large contract very soon. That took more balls than playing would have.Classyposter58;1713693 wrote:No not really that tough just wouldn't give up on something I've worked my whole life for because I was afraid it would hurt me

Look in the mirror Classy. You're so annoyingly dumb the only response is to tell you how f'ing dumb you are. Then again you're impressively incapable of appreciating your own stupidity.

Financially stupid at the least. Is playing a few extra years for another $10-15 million easily not worth a slight increase in having long term head injuries(that he doesn't have already).

I agree with this. I respect the decision and do think it's odd, but I won't act like some simple-minded hardass and call him a "p***y."sleeper;1713704 wrote:Financially stupid at the least. For a player who has had concussions before, and said he felt issues during training camp, I'm not sure this is a sound argument.sleeper;1713704 wrote:Financially stupid at the least. He would have had to play out his rookie deal so another 3 years of potentially playing through concussions.
From the ESPN article "He said the issue "gathered steam" as the season progressed. Before the fourth game of the preseason, at Houston, he wrote a letter to his parents informing them that he thought his career in the NFL would be brief because of his concerns about the potential long-term effects of head injuries."
So obviously he wouldn't have played long enough to see that money if he was legitimately afraid of concussions.

Not if you're heart isn't in it anymore, its gonna up your likelihood of getting hurt. Plus as a 3rd round pick, he wouldn't have came close to that type of money. His rookie deal was 4yrs for 3m.sleeper;1713704 wrote:Financially stupid at the least. He will make bank doing other shit. Probably more than what his 3M rookie deal wouldve paid him.

Not sure how good, or comfortable he is in front of a crowd, but have to think he'd have plenty of speaking engagement opportunities out there, especially if he becomes successful in some other area.Laley23;1713709 wrote:He will make bank doing other shit. His heart wasn't in it. Never loved football and hinted at a young retirement for a while. Brilliant and enlightened guy who will be a success in life regardless.

I really applaud his decision. It definitely takes balls to walk away from something you love like that. He'll just from high school and college football I've recently had a ct scan and i have some brain damage from the concussions I've had. My spine near my neck isn't curved anymore and I have to go to a chiropractor 2-3 times a week to try and get the curve back in my spine. All from playing football. And I'm only 25 years old.

LOL....miss a few days on here only to come back to see a poster has gone full on retard. I suggested that Jordan Cameron might want to consider retirement, last year, after his multiple concussions, and he played for the team I root for.
You're going to see more & more of these guys hanging it up early.

LOL, nothing brings more unintentional lulz than Classy trying to tell us how tough he is by calling professional athletes pussies, and then comparing his experiences to those who actually made it to the highest level (i.e. comparing his round of golf with a cut finger vs D. Rose not playing due to a torn ACL). The best part is Classy pretends he knows what the best decision is for every professional athlete, yet he was never and never will be even close to that level in any profession. I can't say I am surprised though. You are talking about a child who thinks Detroit is the greatest city in the world, BG has the hottest girls in the country (second to OSU), and can kick anyone's ass on this forum because he works out LOL. Classy, do yourself a favor. GTFO of Ohio for a year, and maybe your view on life won't be so sheltered.
As for all the retirements in the NFL, this is becoming the biggest issue for the NFL, not just because people are retiring from the NFL, but because participation numbers at all levels are dropping. I heard on the radio a few months ago that there were actually more head related injuries in soccer (I forget at which level) than in football the last 2 years. I think football's (all levels) approach in providing safety actually has been working, but they are not doing a good job of getting that message across. There are a lot of over concerned mothers out there that need to be told why it is ok for their child to play football.
