Yea, it would've taken him more than a couple seasons, but if he stayed healthy, he would've pulled in a big contract barring injury. Saw a stat that he had 108 tkls on 400+ snaps, and CJ Mosley had 129 on 1000+ snaps. Borland was a beast, and very well may have ended up the top LB in the league.

I did a little research on him last night. He has a degree in History, presumably to be a teacher/professor. He also had the most volunteer hours of any U-W student athlete ever, much of which was speaking at schools. I'd imagine he's pretty comfortable in front of a crowd. Personally I hope he goes out there and makes millions doing something else.

Our HS team beat Borland and AKA in an epic 3 OT playoff thriller. Was good to see him do well at W and in SF. Surprised he did it this quick. THey said this AM he wrote home lsat year saying he wouldnt have a long career in the NFL.

Hell, cannot knock him if that is truly what he wants to do. I imagine he will be successful in other ventures as well.

SF is pretty much screwed!

Barry had a pretty long career in the league though, and Bo Jackson suffered a serious injury. I could understand if Borland had an injury riddled past or had played for a few seasons even in the league and saw his body deteriorating. But he is pretty damn healthy and has only been a pro for one season. Its obvious from those letters he became afraid and that's weak I think to throw away a career

Reported today that he told the 49ers last year in camp he was likely to retire before this season.

A local kid, Ross Homan, played for OSU and then was drafted by the vikes. Suffered a bad concussion in training camp. When he got cut he didnt make much of an effort to try and go elsewhere as he said it just wasnt worth the beating. He had his degree and said he didnt need football.

It can happen.

Some talk about how the have been playing since youth. Most of the local teams here dont even start until they are in 7th grade, and are not permitted to lift until AFTER their 8th grade football season.
