Just finished up the series on Monday. GOAT television series for me, easily. Breaking Bad is close, but not that close.

Also, I hear there is a mini-series called "The Corner" from the same creator that I need to watch but it wasn't on amazon or netflix.

I put it up there with Sopranos, 2-3 of the best seasons of any show, and a couple not up to the same level. Breaking Bad would be higher for me if Walt's son, wife and sister-in-law weren't such horribly annoying characters. The first 2-3 seasons of Lost is as good as anything out there, but it fell a lot further than others on my list in subsequent seasons.

For me it goes something like:
1) Game of Thrones
2) The Shield
3) The Wire
4) Sopranos
5) Breaking Bad

Season 4 of The Wire HAS to be the best season of television ever. I won't accept any opinion that it's not. :)

My roommates and I are on season three right now. So far, Breaking Bad is ahead for me.

String was a POS, but definitely a great character.

My favorite from the series, and probably of all-time, is Bunny Colvin. His speech to Carver about the drug war was about the best piece of dialog I've ever heard.

Lol, I am not worried about it. We have seriously been watching for like 6 months with no end in sight. I forget a bunch of stuff when we go weeks between eps, so I am not super invested. I might have to go back and binge-watch on my own someday.

I too just watched the the wire. Then last night just finished The Newsroom.

Wire is def. top 5 for me.

Though I've never watched the Sopranos, or the Shield.

I was surprised when they killed String, and wrote off Avon.

I really liked D'Angelo, and Prop Joe though.

Agreed. I liked D a lot but I knew that was coming. Same with Prop Joe. Dukie met the saddest end, though. That final scene with Prez was rough. Also, the scene when Carver realized there wasn't shit he could do to help Randy at the end of season 4. That was brutal.

I will have to watch the Wire. Breaking Bad is my current number one with Sopranos at number two. Boardwalk Empire is third.

Agree about Dukie.

They made you feel bad about him the whole series, even more so when he got on the needle.

Was glad about Bubbles straightening himself out.

The Wire is the best written, directed and IMO, acted show ever. That said, it's #2 for me. Just liked Breaking Bad more.

But, the lack of sound effects, score, etc made The Wire so damn authentic. Just awesome.

Was S4 the one with the kids and the mayoral race? If so, that was my favorite. But, shiiiiiiiiiiit, it's been so long I forget the order of seasons.

It had to be done at that point. He was about to rise above simple street kingpin, and then the show either writes him off or goes a different direction.

Yeah, season 4 was focused on the schools.

I've been reading a lot about the show now that I've watched it. I had no idea the old guy that plays the deacon is the inspiration for the Avon Barksdale character. The guy was a legit kingpin in Baltimore back in the 80s.

Crazy to me the guy simply lived all that as a reporter. Not to the extent of the cops/politicians...but he was heavily involved in many of the storylines as a reporter for the Sun.

It's really weird reading through all of the characters and who played them. Jay Landsman (big fat cop) is based on a real cop named Jay Landsman who actually plays someone else in the show. Also, the bald white detective was the actual Baltimore Commish from 2000-2002.

And the guy who goes into Jail to save Omar (My fav. character btw), and the guy who goes in to that apt. with him when Omar jumps out the window, was the inspiration for the Omar character.

The girl who played Snoop (her real name was her character name as well) spent 6 years in jail for 2nd-degree murder.
