I loved the Wire, but I'm glad it's over. I'm telling you right now, the fake homeless murder guy was a definite "Jump The Shark" moment for that show, it wasn't going to last much longer than it did.

It wasn't supposed to last any longer. The whole story was basically laid out from the beginning which is why it was good. They didn't have to make stuff up to fill new seasons, and everything had a purpose.

The show was originally supposed to be 5 seasons, and it was.

I don't fully agree there. McNulty and Freamon were incredible detectives, but they also were willing to do anything to get their way and that was a perfect example of just how far they would go and how smart they were

This. whether it was supposed to be only 5 seasons or not, they really lost me here. it was a bit much for the story line.

of course, but they proved that early on. setting up fake murders is quite a stretch.
