I don't disagree on the shooting based on what happened. I do think they could have approached the situation better to prevent the shooting

How do you think they should have approached the situation?

i'd like to see a more real time video, I hear one of the cops had a body camera. which I assume we may not see for a while. however, the kid was also sitting down on the bench moments before the cops roll up. is it possible he got up and started walking towards the cops before they got out? I haven't listened to the 911 call, did the dispatcher say exactly where the kid was located or was it just "the park"? parks are large areas, they could have been driving around looking for the kid and only spotted him and recognized him as the suspect kid at the very last second.

If that is how cops are trained to handle that situation, they need to revise the training. They just pulled up and shot him. The only thing the kid could have done to save his life there is immediately throw his hands up in the air and fall to his knees or something. And he would have had to do it with the precision of someone who was trained to surrender. The cops had control over how they approached him, and that blitz meant something bad was going to happen.

The only thing? I think you leaving out one tiny little thing that could have saved his life. NOT PULLING A GUN OUT WHEN THE POLICE APPROACH!

From the video I saw he didn't whip it out on them. They were on him and shot him before he knew what happened.

He was pulling it out of his waistband. Clear as day.

The kid actually stood a pretty good chance of not being hit by Cleveburgh cops even when they did shoot...when I first heard this I was shocked some other kid didn't jump in front and "intercept" the bullet.

If that is what the cops are trained to do when they are responding to a report of a 12 year old with a maybe fake fun, zero shots fired, and nobody really in the area. They need to do better.

Except they were never told it was a fake gun (Unless a new report came out recently) All radio communication i've seen was that was a young male with a gun.

The 911 call I heard the guy was saying it was probably a fake gun, but he wanted them to check it out. I believe it was made by a guy in the park, who was so terrified he was just sitting there.

I understand they need to assume it's real, but deadly force should be a last resort. They drove up right into the grass, got out, and shot. That approach relied on the 12 year old to react exactly according their rules, and if he didn't he's dead. Cops should have some method of of at least giving him a command (via megaphone?) before just shooting quickly if he does something that looks dangerous. The outcome was totally wrong for the cops, because they ended up killing an unarmed 12 year old. The question is did they do everything in their power to avoid it?

That was on the 911 call. Unsure if that was relayed to the officers though.

The 911 caller also said that it was "scaring the {expletive} out of me."

What was relayed to the officers by dispatch.....

"In the park by the youth center, there's a black male sitting on the swings. He's wearing a camouflage hat, a gray jacket with black sleeves. He keeps pulling a gun out of his pants and pointing it at people," the dispatcher said.

THIS!

I hate to see a kid killed for any reason, but anyone who is blaming the officer here is misguided at best, biased against any cop/authority at worst.

He was waving a gun around a park, a gun that looked 100% real since he (or someone else) removed the orange cap of an airsoft gun. Police are called to a scene with multiple reports of a kid waving a gun and pointing it at people.

They get there, order his hands up, and he reaches for the gun.

While it sucks that the kid probably was reaching for it to give it to them, you can't blame the police officer. EVERYTHING he knew was that it was a real gun, that the kid had been pointing it at people all along, and that he was about to point it at him and possibly shoot.

As terrible as the situation is, it was a justified shooting on the officers part, period. Anyone with critical thinking skills can see that.

Based on how the officers responded they probably were justified in shooting. I just can't believe they couldn't have a better plan of attack in place when approaching the kid that minimizes everyone's chance of being killed. From the time they screeched into the park grass to the time they killed him was only a few seconds. They took a lit match to gasoline. It might be wishful thinking on my part, but they knew they were dealing with a kid and unknown weapon. Is flying up to him in the grass like that the best way to approach that? I'm not a cop, but it doesn't seem like the best way to minimize risk of someone dying.

Take the fact that it was a kid out of the equation for a minute. They had a person waving a gun around multiple people in a park, of course the officers are coming in "flying up to him".

Just like the 3 teens in St. Louis (2 black, 1 Hispanic) that killed the guy with a hammer. Where are the protests?

Didn't hear about that one. Were they not charged? Should definitely be protesting if they weren't and deserved to be.

I'm pretty sure they have actual EVIDENCE in this case to charge these animals for doing something outside of the law. Had there been a case somewhere of someone deserving to be charged and they weren't....and had actual EVIDENCE to support their case, then there wouldn't be an issue at all.
