MadBum gets another zero despite giving up a lead-off hit, and uses 15 pitches. Will he be able to get thru the 6th to complete the bridge to the 7th and the top relievers. But they have already used Affeldt from their normal complement to get thru the 7th, 8th, and 9th. And in this 7th game the hitters have seen the top relievers a lot and are about to break thru against them on both sides.

The 3rd time is not the charm for Pence to follow ace lead-off hitter Sandoval's lead-off reach with a hit.

Not the same physique as Lolich who pitched a full 9 in game 7 on 2 days rest. He claimed his extra weight gave him extra stamina!TBone14;1668753 wrote:Here comes Bum. What a game. Giants going to their stud on 2 days rest.
Will he be sharp?

It's why Bochy got him out of there earlier than he could have yesterday.mhs95_06;1668767 wrote:I wouldn't think he'd have much tonight!

Only 13 pitches for Bum that inning, and he looked much better that inning than the beginning of his first, so will he start the 7th to try to reduce the outs the short guys need?

Just as well for the Giants that Escobar made that play to end the inning. That means they'll lead-off the 8th with the #2 hitter, Panik, and I smell some runs then.

Yeah, bring on electronically called balls and strikes. It'll make the games fairer, quicker, and higher scoring!HitsRus;1668774 wrote:^^^benefitting from some very generous calls from the home plate ump.

Bum getting the Maddux/Glavine treatment. At least 2 pitches weren't even close...but that's an ace for you.

Bum goes for the 8th to get it to the closer?

Remarkable out of Bumgardner. He got some borderline calls but it looks like he is getting stronger.

Bum wasn't throwing quite as hard but ball going everywhere...but the 1 down low was ridiculously called

This is why you have Bum come out of the pen. Stop any momentum KC has and just completely shut them down without another pitcher being used.

Yeah....because we know how it would've been if he started.Laley23;1668790 wrote:This is why you have Bum come out of the pen. Stop any momentum KC has and just completely shut them down without another pitcher being used.
Had he started they'd be up 2-0 after 3 innings....that would be good too.

I was going to say I have never seen anything like this but that obviously quite an understatement.
What did that graphic say? 1908 was the last time a pitcher did this?

He wasnt finishing this thing if he started. That meant KC was going to have life no matter what. Him coming in with a lead and able to finish it, psychologically, is damaging imo.

I don't know if he'll finish it off or if the Royals walk off....but this is something pretty special.
I haven't seen what Bumgarner is doing ever before in the postseason.
Bumgarner is 3 out away from never forgotten all-time greatness......Bochy is 3 outs away from becoming Gregg Popovich of MLB

If Bum finishes the 9th with a lead, will he get the win, or will Affeldt get the win and Bum the 15 out save?

He's gotta get through Hosmer, Butler and Gordon to do it.

Saw an interesting point on twitter--because the AL won the All-Star game, Bochy hasn't had to make a decision about pinch-hitting for Bum.
