No problem. I just got done explaining to idiots that thought, "who cares, both teams got to play with them?". I had to explain that each team is responsible to their own...

Seems like they did in fact intentionally cheat then, interesting.

Easy way to fix this. Instead of the NFL giving them the balls back after inspection. Just keep the damn balls. Allows the teams time to "rough" them up a bit, but no way to alter after the fact.

The penalty is so light, why not try to get every advantage? Until the NFL toughens the penalty for purposefully cheating, why would a team like the Pats not try it?

So the Pats blatantly cheated to gain a competitive advantage. Does the NFL do anything or just fine the billionaire craft a shit ton of money that amounts to about $50 to the rest of us?

Prob same thing it did to the steelers for their HC cheating, nothing. If it were the browns, the team would be suspended for 12 games and fined a zillion dollars.

I did not realize that the officials did not keep the game balls until kickoff.

That article sums it up pretty well. Here's the part of the article that bothers me though:
This is a brutal black eye to the reputation of a franchise that has tried desperately to move past Spygate. It's chum to its legion of critics. There may not be an explanation or exoneration that can change public opinion at this point. It's a situation that winds up being an insult to what we'll assume is the overwhelming number of players who don't know anything about mandated-inflation levels but have to have their hard work and accomplishments questioned.
Who cares about their reputation? Belichick will just reply "We're onto the superbowl" when asked and the media will just chuckle like 'typical Belichick he doesn't answer anything.' They've had this problem for years and yet keep winning super bowls. I bet they lose a lot of sleep at night with an ugly reputation but a bunch of trophies to still look at. What's worse is that now Goodell has to discipline them and will just end up suspending Kraft and Belichick from two of next year's preseason games or something. SMH.

Why doesn't the league just take over this function?

I wish the Browns would do this. Serves dual purpose: win an extra game or two and lose draft picks, thus preventing more of our T-Rich and Weeden-like fuck-ups.

Who gives a fuck honestly? I couldn't give a damn about the Pats. So what it makes it easier to catch, you ever try throwing a flat football? D'qwell probably has his "flat" football to thank for his int tbh.

NFL needs to come down hard on this. It's the integrity of the league that's at stake. They worry about, suspend and fine players for off field stuff that does not affect what goes on the field, but they slap a wrist on cheating? Worse, it's not the first time the Pats have been caught.

Aaron Rodgers over inflates the footballs he uses and no one gives a damn, so why should the league come down hard on this? Do you think it has any impact on the game? Did that stop Indy from scoring more points?

It doesn't matter if the score was 100-0. They cheated, and yes, they need to be punished harshly. If only we could find out all of the ways they cheat because I guarantee this isn't the only thing.

filming practices is fucked up, stepping out on the field to stop somebody from scoring is fucked up. deflating balls making them easier to catch and harder to throw isn't fucked up. its a tradeoff.

I'd bet every team does things like this to gain any advantage possible. Patriots are just always under a microscope. Pretty sure the reward for them out weighs any possible punishment.

My point was, why is this such a big deal and Rodgers over inflating to help him throw not an issue at all?

Not sure but it really doesn't matter. If Rodgers is cheating he should get in trouble too. Point is, the patriots cheated and this isn't their first time getting caught cheating.

Their reputation is destroyed by being a bunch of cheaters.

I've heard the possibility of the Patriots losing 1st, 2nd & 3rd round picks, along with a fine, for this. I've also heard Belichick could be suspended for a year. I think a fair "punishment" for Belichick would be to force him to come back to coach the Browns...;)

They could suspend him and i bet he finds a way to coach the team. I honestly don't think they give a shit about punishments for anything they do.
