There are 38 million African Americans in the US. There are 1 million in prison. I do not think it's ok to harass the other 37 million because some people with similar skin color make poor choices. Even if you want to argue the number of African Americans who make poor decisions, you have to admit a majority of them do not.

Are you going to profile people in different areas who look suspicious or who aren't necessarily the demographic of an area? Most likely. I'm white and middle class and have been pulled over before for "no reason." By that i mean, i was lost in a wealthy town at night, driving slow, and i had tinted windows. A cop pulled me over and asked me what i was doing and i explained myself and he got me where i needed to be. I didn't go yelling "i was just profiled and stopped for no reason!" They're doing their job. I've been arrested, i didn't resist and i wasn't tazered or beaten. I don't think there is a problem with profiling. All these people who talk shit about the cops, i think the police should take a month off in their city and see what happens.

Also - Racism is learned and you're a product of your environment. We're not that far removed from civil rights. My mom can't stand minorities and brought me up telling me to never bring home a black girl. By that she meant "white only." As i got older i realized she's just from a different time and that's how she was brought up, but of course some of it rubs off. Do i stereotype? Absolutely, but I'm not going to tell my son "don't bring home a black girl." With each generation i think there will be less racism.

I agree that there will be less racism as older generations die but I don't think it's ok to just accept it. I don't care if individuals stereotype, but I think it's an issue if the justice system/law enforcement does.

stereotyping, profiling.....its all human nature. Why are we trying to fight that?

Personally, i think we only hear about the cases that go wrong. I also don't think profiling is the problem. Police don't pick what color your skin is when you commit a crime. Enough of one race or group of people do something, it's going to get focused on.

You're ok with people stereotyping, as long as they stay out of certain professions? By the time you've found a job, you already have assumptions about different races, it's impossible to separate the two. In the end, if you don't break the law you won't have to deal potentially racist police, lawyers, and judges. You don't hear about all the good work they do, just the couple mistakes that get made.

I'm ok with stereotyping if people do it in their personal life. If someone wants to be racist, I think it's wrong, but that's their prerogative. I only have an issue if it affects how they perform their job.

I agree that we only hear about certain cases and my limited experience is that people in jail deserve it. But from the link I posted and minorities in the media it isn't inconceivable to me that there is a larger problem that I have never experienced. I don't think it hurts to look into that.
