There is no plausible scenario where we keep our team and still sign Love.
So two rookie salaries is what allowed us to sign Love?

What about a different trade that did not involve wiggins? That's my argument.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/234715/Cavs-Attempting-To-Deal-For-Timofey-Mozgov

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been attempting to trade for Timofey Mozgov over the past six to eight weeks, according to Brian Windhorst.
But Sports.ru's Alexander Chernykh has reported that it will not happen.
Mozgov is making $4.65 million this season with the Denver Nuggets and has a $4.95 million team option in 15-16.
The Cavaliers have a clear need at backup center.

The Warriors offered old man Lee and Harrison Barnes, the Suns offered Eric Bledsoe, and the Cavs trade back to back #1 overall draft picks and a 1st rounder including the best prospect since Lebron for a player who was going to leave anyways. Such a bad trade.
Old man Lee huh?

He's 31 and a trash player. 31 is old for a trash center.

18-9-2 last season. Top 26 trash player of all time.

Do you have an actual question?

It could have been Waiters and Bennett, but apparently that couldn't get the job done with Minny. It also wouldn't surprise me that Lebron would prefer to play with his new Wade (Waiters) rather than an unpolished offensive player whose best skill (defense) tends to decrease in value as teams play tighter in the post-season.

There's a reason the Thunder improved when they got Thabo off the court and replaced him with an actual offensive threat.

Wasn't trying to be a dick.

Did we have to give up Bennett and wiggins for the salaries to work? Why not offer other players other than wiggins to get Love?

1) Tristan was untouchable, unfortunately
2) the only other appealing trade pieces were Wiggins, Waiters, and Bennett
3) I'm venturing to guess (as I said in my post above) that Lebron wanted offense over defense in the playoffs.

So listening to griffin talk to 92.3 he said they had conversations with minna before draft. They then picked wiggins intending to keep him and make a love trade with other players. That then they got lbj and were willing to go into win a title now mode. Also said they got love who they would have hoped wiggins could turn into..from a potential standpoint.

Okay so essentially the answer to my question was yes. We had to offer those two players to get Love

Let me clarify what I'm trying to say. First, I think Wiggins has stud potential. Secondly, he's a rookie and reaching that potential will take more than 1 or 2 years. Third, his biggest flaw, dribbling and creating on his own, becomes ridiculously magnified in the playoffs. Having even one player on the court that the defense doesn't view as a threat can completely muddle an offensive scheme.

All of that being said, I still think GM Lebron is an idiot if he didn't consider that Wiggins' offensive flaws are significantly less noticeable in an offense surrounded by Lebron, Kyrie, and Waiters. But by trading for Love, Cleveland will have 4 players who are at least "very good" at putting the ball in the hoop in crunch time. The same can't be said if Wiggins is in there instead of Love.

Griffin just said something that I think a lot of us have said. Start waiters. Then he comes off the floor but back on to take Kyrie's spot as the ball handler.

Waiters is a malcontent who is going to get moody and grumpy when he realizes he's the 4th or 5th option on this team and averages about 12 points a game. He wants to get paid, and would be happier averaging 25 a game on a shitty team than contributing on a winning team.

He thought he didn't get enough shots/touches on last years team, wait until he is stuck with the scraps left after Lebron/Kyrie/Love get theirs.

I don't know. I'm only speculating that Waiters and Bennett wasn't good enough for Minnesota.

I harken back to what Griffin said after the draft about the ridiculousness of rumors. We don't know exactly who offered what, or how big of a difference between our offer and others'.

Later in this griffin interview you kinda got the sense they didn't want wiggins but that Minnesota did. That they preferred someone else if they intended to keep him. I think I misunderstood him earlier in the interview.

That would only make sense to me if they were sure that far in advance that lebron was returning.

Or if they wanted to go the Philly route, draft Embiid, and suck for 1 more year, which seems unlikely.

the Cavs didn't have to give up that much talent wise to land Love, but they had to give up that much salary wise.

Wiggins would have extended Lebron's career. He should call Kobe and ask him how the lack of a young athletic swing man to chase around the other teams best player has effected him as he's aged.

This was a very good interview. Surprised at how open Griffin was.

He agreed that Love could be a defensive liability saying that was a "fair assessment." Also implied that the Wolves discussed Wiggins with the Cavs BEFORE the draft. Went on to say they didn't draft Wiggins with the intent on trading him to the Wolves but once Kyrie re-signed and Lebron committed, they saw their chance to get Love and Wiggins became available. Much more valuable info from this interview that has slipped my mind.

He was extremely open. Not something most guys would say. It was a great interview.

He could also ask how the presence of a dominant big man allowed him to win 5 titles.
