Aren't the ones important are those that live? They introduced two new characters this season, Oberyn and Mace - and Mace just sits around. There is no, and I mean no, way they could possibly introduce Connington, Aegon, Darkstar, Oakheart, 4 (count them 4) sandsnakes, Aeron, Victarion, Euron, the chick on the boat with Connington, the people in Braavos no one cares about, the people in Meereen no one cares about, Quentyn (the worst character ever), the people with Quentyn, the tattered Prince and his cast of idiots, Brown Ben and his sellswords who no nobody cares about without the series being cancelled. No one is going to watch Brienne travel for 2 years to look for Sansa when everyone knows she won't find her. Terrible writing, like the last two books.TedSheckler;1615856 wrote:LOL. Your first paragraph is something I was thinking about yesterday. This will be a very interesting transition period for the show, where they'll have to be very careful to maintain their audience. They've lost one great hate-sink villain in Joffrey. Tywin is about to join him, Sandor is about to enter the dead/not dead twilight zone where people will wonder if he's a mysterious limping gravedigger who was seen once by Brianne and so on. Meanwhile, while those popular characters are dying or fading into the sunset, fans will be asked to care about Ironborn succession ceremonies, Dornish conspiracies and other world-building exercises that basically take them away from everything they enjoyed about the show. Where the main interesting things will be what goes on at the Wall with Jon/Stannis and the Wildlings and uh...Cersei's growing paranoia? Jaime besieging Edmure Tully's home? Brianne's fateful encounter with the Brotherhood Without Banners? Arya learning to become an assassin and then killing all sorts of minor characters who probably never were adapted to the show to begin with? Oh..and Littlefinger and Varys being a pair of motherfucking bosses.Manhattan Buckeye;1616096 wrote:Aren't the ones important are those that live? Work with what you have, Jon, Tyrion and Dany come together, and let Arya/Brienne or both, find Sansa and just ignore the last two lame books of Brienne looking for a maiden of 10 and four everywhere other than where she is and Tyrion asking where whores go with no resolution in sight.
A lot of those new characters would only be on the show when absolutely needed. Euron for example, he'd simply replace Balon who has appeared in what? 3 episodes? You could do one scene with him sending Vic and the dragon horn and then he'd disappear until season 6 and Vic wouldn't show up again until the battle of Meereen. Qyentyn doesn't need to appear on screen until he walks into Dany's throne room and gets shot down. 1 episode later he could show up at the Dragon jail and pick up his Darwin Award. Darkstar and Oakhart could be cut down to one scene (prologue of season 5?) that could be followed shortly by Doran busting Arianne for the Myracella crowning plot and telling her he sent Quentyn east. No need for scenes locking up sandsnakes . Who cares what sellsword company Tyrion joins and turns? We don't have to care about who leads it. Did anyone really care about the slave master who got Dracary'ed ? No.Manhattan Buckeye;1616096 wrote:Aren't the ones important are those that live? As I recall, she was dead too long to retain much of her humanity. All she really remembers is that the Lannisters and Freys must die for what they did to her family and so she kills them and their allies. Brianne was on the "do what I say or die" list because, in part, her sword was one of the two Tywin used Ned's greatsword to forge.TedSheckler;1616856 wrote:They call her Lady Stoneheart.
If I remember correctly, she has no memory of the past. Brienne is about to be hanged and Lady Stoneheart stops that's, but has no previous memory of Brienne.
According to imdb a Braavosi Captain has been cast and will be appearing in episode 10. Guess who's going to Braavos?Manhattan Buckeye;1616096 wrote:Aren't the ones important are those that live? I'm sure HBO can get at least a season out of Tyrion describing the turtles he sees. God the 5th book sucked.TedSheckler;1617892 wrote:They are jumping way ahead if Arya is going to Braavos already. It seems as though The Hound is going to die in the next couple episodes. I enjoyed Arya's story in Braavos. What will be boring is when Tyrion takes off to go to follow Daenerys.
Not really, its pretty much right on time. AFFC/ADWD were really just one big book. It'll be much more bearable on screen because they'll be able to slice and dice so much of it. A lot of Cercei's and Tyrion's arcs were inside their heads for example. Like I said, "where do whores go?" wont be heard 187 times if at all. "You know nothing, Jon Snow" was in the books way more than the show.TedSheckler;1617892 wrote:They are jumping way ahead if Arya is going to Braavos already. I'd be interested in seeing what they have for Brianne, since a lot of her quest is pretty much a no-go for the series. The Mummers aren't in the show, so her encounter with Shagwell and company can't happen. And Rorge/Biter fell to Sandor/Arya, so she can't fight them. So, that leaves what. Aimless wandering and then running into the Brotherhood Without Banners?Manhattan Buckeye;1621751 wrote:The show has to move behind GRRM's material. It has about two seasons left in it or else people will get bored. No one wants to see Dany going back to the Red Waste with only one dragon, Tyrion turning into a little girl and Jon being a complete idiot while running the Night's Watch. At times I wonder if someone else wrote the past two books.
- oh, and the 20+ other plot pieces left unresolved, and Brienne in her never-ending quest when we know that she's never anywhere close to Sansa.
